Platelets and Antiphospholipid Antibodies [PDF]
The involvement of platelets in the antiphospholipid syndrome is complex and the full pathogenic significance is not fully understood. The binding of aPL antibodies to the platelet membrane may result in the thrombopenia and further haemostatic activation.

Elution of Granulocyte and Platelet Antibodies
Vox Sanguinis, 1982AbstractBy lowering the pH of the medium, allo‐ and autoantibodies bound to granulocytes and platelets could be eluted from these cells and their presence in the eluate could subsequently be detected with normal donor granulocytes and platelets, respectively, in the immunofluorescence test and/or agglutination test.

Immune Platelet Iso-Antibodies
Vox Sanguinis, 1960Summary A technique is described in detail [12] for detecting serological factors capable of agglutinating platelets at 37°C. It consists of a modification of the agglutination technique described by Dausset and Malinvaud [9] in which an agitator was used. The modification consists of heating the platelets to 56°C.

Laboratory testing for platelet antibodies
American Journal of Hematology, 2013Laboratory testing for immune‐mediated thrombocytopenias involves identification and classification of antibodies present in patient sera or attached to patient platelets. This article summarizes the available types of platelet antibody testing and applications in disorders such as neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia, post‐transfusion purpura ...

Platelet Antibodies in Patients With Migraine
Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, 1998The reported decrease of platelet serotonin receptors in patients with migraine could be due to an autoimmune reaction. We, therefore, examined sera from 42 migraineurs without aura, 26 migraineurs with aura, and 107 headache‐free blood donors for platelet‐reactive antibodies using the platelet adhesion immunofluorescence test, the NIH ...

Human Platelet Activating Antibodies
Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis, 1992Platelet antibodies identified in the plasma of three multiply transfused patients and a woman who had delivered a baby with neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia were investigated for their platelet activating properties. Three patients possessed multispecific HLA antibodies reactive with 90 to 100% of the cells on a lymphocytotoxic panel.

The proper diagnosis of patients with immune-mediated thrombocytopenias can be accomplished by using the advances made in the field of platelet serology. These techniques range from solid phase red cell adherence to sequencing platelet antigen amino acids by polymerase chain reaction.

Studies on Platelet Antibodies in Man
Vox Sanguinis, 1961SummaryThree serological methods, the agglutination test, the anti‐human globulin consumption test and the complement fixation test for the detection of platelet antibodies are described and the results given. Special attention is directed to some factors concerning the anti‐human globulin consumption test.

Thrombocytopenias and Platelet‐Antibodies
Vox Sanguinis, 1957SummaryThe report deals with the investigation of thrombocyte‐antibodies. By means of an agglutination test 490 sera were tested, and a direct platelet‐Coombs test was performed in addition on 38 patients.48 sera were from patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura; 10 gave a positive agglutination test, and 2 had a positive direct platelet ...

In the past 40 years a plethora of publications has appeared in the literature, which describe methods to detect platelet antibodies in sera or bound to cells of patients in various clinical conditions. These methods can be broadly subdivided by the principle on which they are based into methods that measure: a.
