The platelet count in pregnancy. [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Clinical Pathology, 1977
The platelet count was measured at approximately monthly intervals during the course of 44 normal pregnancies. There was no evidence of any fall in the platelet count during pregnancy. Any significant change in the platelet count in pregnant women is unlikely to be the result of a normal pregnancy.

Utility of platelet count and platelet indices as a prognostic indicator in pregnancy induced hypertension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Background: Changes in the hemostatic system are observed in both normal and hypertensive pregnant patients. Although the exact pathophysiology of pregnancy induced hypertension is not completely understood, numerous pathophysiological mechanisms, alone ...

COVID-19 vaccination in patients with immune thrombocytopenia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021

Advances in Platelet Counting [PDF]

open access: yesHematology, 2001
Accurate and reliable platelet counting is critical for the clinical management of platelet disorders, especially in thrombocytopenia. The platelet count is used to determine if the patient requires a platelet transfusion. As the prophylactic transfusion trigger is now set anywhere between 10-20 × 10(9)/L (depending upon the institution) it is ...

Platelet Counts during Pregnancy [PDF]

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2018
(N Engl J Med. 2018;379:32–43) In the present study, the authors evaluated platelet counts in women (15 to 44 y of age) who delivered at the Oklahoma University Medical Center between 2011 and 2014. Their objectives were to (1) evaluate the potential severity of gestational thrombocytopenia (<150,000 platelets/mm3 at the time of delivery ...

Age- and sex-related variations in platelet count in Italy: a proposal of reference ranges based on 40987 subjects' data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Although several studies demonstrated that platelet count is higher in women, decreases with age, and is influenced by genetic background, most clinical laboratories still use the reference interval 150-400×10(9) platelets/L ...

Mean Platelet Volume (MPV), Platelet Distribution Width (PDW), Platelet Count and Plateletcrit (PCT) as predictors of in-hospital paediatric mortality: a case-control Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Thrombocytopenia has been shown to predict mortality. We hypothesize that platelet indices may be more useful prognostic indicators. Our study subjects were children one month to 14 years old admitted to our hospital.Aim: To determine whether
