Transfusion: Predict the Next Token and Diffuse Images with One Multi-Modal Model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We introduce Transfusion, a recipe for training a multi-modal model over discrete and continuous data. Transfusion combines the language modeling loss function (next token prediction) with diffusion to train a single transformer over mixed-modality sequences.

Thromboelastography Maximum Amplitude Is a Valuable Biomarker for Early Atherosclerosis in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients: A Single‐Center Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercoagulability contributes to atherosclerosis (AS) progression in individuals suffering from rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and thromboelastography (TEG) is a valuable diagnostic tool. This hospital‐based cross‐sectional study assessed the clinical efficacy of TEG parameters in detecting hypercoagulability and subclinical AS by purposively ...

Non‐Tobacco Nicotine Use and Complications in Free Flap Repair in Head and Neck Cancer

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Non‐tobacco nicotine use is associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications in HNC patients following free flap reconstruction. ABSTRACT Objective Assess associations between non‐tobacco nicotine usage and free flap repair complications in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients.

Liver Disease Predicts 30‐Day Postoperative Complications in Head and Neck Microvascular Surgery

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
While liver disease is known to affect surgical outcomes, its impact on head and neck microvascular free tissue transfer surgeries remains unexamined. This study uses the NSQIP national database to analyze the relationship between liver disease severity, determined by APRI and MELD‐Na scores, and postoperative complications.

Confetti Ordering by Polymer Brushes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
I consider the ordering of dilute platelet additives when incorporated into an end-grafted polymer brush. The competition between wetting interactions and the anisotropic stress environment of the interior of the brush causes these platelet additives to either remain suspended at the outer edge of the brush laying flat against the brush surface (as ...

A Novel Series of Synthetic Heparin‐Mimetics–Itaconic Acid‐Containing Copolymers for Targeting Tumor Cell Coagulability and Metastasis

open access: yesMacromolecular Bioscience, EarlyView.
Heparin is postulated to possess antitumor properties‐ beyond its anticoagulative activities in oncology, but disclosure of targeted activities is complicated by heparins structural variabilities as natural glycosaminoglycans. Here, synthetic noncarbohydrate polymers are presented with tuneable structures as heparin mimetics in in‐vitro‐approaches for ...

Platelet enumeration in dense aggregates [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Identifying and counting blood components such as red blood cells, various types of white blood cells, and platelets is a critical task for healthcare practitioners. Deep learning approaches, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs) using supervised learning strategies, have shown considerable success for such tasks.
