Interrogating the Escherichia coli Epitranscriptome Via CRISPR Interference and Nanopore Native RNA Sequencing

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Epitranscriptomics is understudied in bacteria but has the ability to modulate antimicrobial resistance, virulence and pathogenicity. Pitt et al. implement two cutting‐edge techniques: CRISPR interference and Nanopore direct RNA sequencing along with functional assays to study RNA modifications in Escherichia coli.

Eating Behavior Latent Profiles and Their Associations With Body Composition in Early Childhood: The CORALS Cohort

open access: yesObesity, Volume 34, Issue 10, Page 1904-1914, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to identify sex‐specific eating behavior profiles and assess the associations between eating behaviors subscales and profiles and body composition indices in Spanish preschoolers from the CORALS cohort. Methods We conducted a cross‐sectional analysis of baseline data from 1208 children aged 3–6 years (50.1% girls ...

A dual gating mechanism controls target‐strand cleavage in Cas12j: Implications for engineering efficient nickases

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract The rapid expansion of CRISPR technologies has unveiled a diverse repertoire of RNA‐guided endonucleases, among them the compact Cas12j, which has emerged as a promising genome‐editing tool. Cas12j cleaves the two DNA strands sequentially; however, the molecular mechanism that regulates this cleavage remains incompletely understood.
