A Review of Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Disease: Comprehensive Theory and Evidence for Mechanisms of Action
Comprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2026.Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) effects span central and peripheral organ systems through diverse mechanistic pathways. This comprehensive review provides a unified synthesis of these mechanisms across neurological, cardiovascular, immunological, metabolic, and gastrointestinal domains, filling a critical gap and serving as a foundational resource for ...Yifeng Bu, Alex Liang, Benjamin U. EFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 5, May 2025.Abstract
The European Commission asked EFSA to update its 2014 risk assessment on perchlorate in food. Perchlorate is a contaminant of both natural and anthropogenic sources present in food and drinking water. It is a substrate for the sodium iodide symporter (NIS) and competitively inhibits the uptake of iodide into the thyroid.EFSA Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain (CONTAM), Helle Katrine Knutsen, Agneta Åkesson, Vasileios Bampidis, Margherita Bignami, Laurent Bodin, Gisela Degen, Antonio Hernández‐Jerez, Tim Hofer, Christer Hogstrand, Stefano Landi, Jean‐Charles Leblanc, Kyriaki Machera, Evangelia Ntzani, Guido Rychen, Salomon Sand, Katharina Vejdovszky, Barbara Viviani, Aleksandra Buha Djordjevic, Thorhallur Halldorsson, Chantra Eskes, Olaf Mosbach‐Schulz, Francesca Riolo, Elena Rovesti, Efisio Solazzo, Alexios Zormpas, Tuuli Tauriainen, James Kevin Chipman +27 morewiley +1 more sourceEctopic expression of the grape hexose transporter VvHT5 restores STP13‐deficiency in Arabidopsis and promotes fungal resistance to Botrytis cinerea
Plant Pathology, Volume 74, Issue 2, Page 493-506, February 2025.Expression of grapevine hexose transporter VvHT5 in Arabidopsis thaliana enhances resistance to Botrytis cinerea, suggesting a role in defence by restricting sugar availability to the pathogen and supporting host metabolic needs. Case Reports in Infectious Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.Rahnella aquatilis is a Gram‐negative bacterium commonly found in the environment. Previously associated with food spoilage, it has in the past been responsible for causing infection in humans, usually as an opportunistic pathogen. We report a case of a previously healthy female who was diagnosed with R. aquatilis bacteraemia.Amelia Benjamin, Partho Roy, Natalie Pedersen, Madhuri Vidwans, Dawei Cui +4 morewiley +1 more sourceLimosilactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 relieves inflammation, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and autophagy in hippocampus of western diet‐fed rats by modulation of systemic inflammation
BioFactors, Volume 50, Issue 6, Page 1236-1250, November/December 2024.This study investigates the ability of Limosilactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 (L. reuteri) in counteracting neuroinflammation, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), and autophagy in hippocampus of rats fed a high fat and fructose diet. Diet‐induced pro‐inflammatory signaling pathway activation, ERS, and autophagy were prevented by L.Arianna Mazzoli, Maria Stefania Spagnuolo, Francesca De Palma, Natasha Petecca, Angela Di Porzio, Valentina Barrella, Antonio Dario Troise, Rosanna Culurciello, Sabrina De Pascale, Andrea Scaloni, Gianluigi Mauriello, Susanna Iossa, Luisa Cigliano +12 morewiley +1 more source
