Pneumatic Automation Tools: Pneumatic Muscle

open access: yesMechanical Engineering and Computer Science, 2017
The traditional actuating motor for pneumatic drives is a differential double-acting pneumatic cylinder used to create a pushing force that is significantly larger than the pulling force. The pneumatic muscle is a single-acting operating motor to be used for creating a pulling force.

A theoretical approach to pneumatic muscle mechanics

open access: yes2013 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics, 2013
The mechanical response of pneumatic artificial muscles is analyzed assuming the inextensibility of the sheathing braids and taking into account the stress field inside the rubber bladder, which is regarded as a Mooney-Rivlin hyperelastic material. The end effects are simulated by heuristically profiling the meridian section.

Development of a Straight Fibers Pneumatic Muscle

open access: yesInternational Journal of Automation Technology, 2018
This paper presents the development and implementation of a pneumatic muscle actuator based on an idea proposed by a research group at the University of Warsaw. The muscle comprises a silicone rubber tube with plugs at the ends. The tube wall contains high-rigidity wires arranged parallel to the tube axis.

Pressure Control of a Pneumatic Artificial Muscle Including Pneumatic Circuit Model [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Various applications using pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) have been developed in recent years. When the pressure of the PAM is controlled, it is desirable to position a pressure sensor at the control port of a servo valve through a pipeline for improvement in usability, environment resistance, and elimination of mechanical complexity. However, the

Fuzzy Control:

open access: yesMeasurement + Control, 2009
Pneumatic muscle actuators are newly developed actuators in rotational, non-aligned and specified applications. In this paper, pneumatic muscle actuators are used to set up a two-dimensional pneumatic arm to simulate the excavator's motion. Fuzzy control

A Novel Framework for a Systematic Integration of Pneumatic-Muscle-Actuator-Driven Joints into Robotic Systems Via a Torque Control Interface

open access: yesActuators, 2018
In this paper, two different torque control approaches for PMA-driven (PMA = Pneumatic muscle actuator) revolute joints are presented and tested. In previous work controllers for PMA-driven robots are typically customized for the use on a specific ...
