Factors associated with potentially inappropriate medication use, medication underuse and overuse in older adults in the German National Cohort

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, Volume 299, Issue 6, Page 754-775, June 2026.
Abstract Background Effectively identifying individuals exposed to drug underuse, overuse and potentially inappropriate medication (PIM) in older adults is essential for minimizing preventable drug‐related harms. Methods We analysed data from 54,296 individuals aged 60–74 years from the German National Cohort (NAKO).

Molecular Clocks in Translational Roadmap for Circadian‐Based Therapeutics in Lung Diseases

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 10, 31 May 2026.
High‐amplitude circadian oscillations maintain lung immune and epithelial homeostasis. Chronic inflammation dampens peripheral clock amplitude, driving chronodisruption, barrier dysfunction, and remodeling. Clock‐targeted therapies re‐entrain the lung circadian clock, restore rhythmic immune resolution, and promote functional lung repair.

Thoracic empyema - A review based on three cases reports Empiema torácico - Revisão baseada em três casos clínicos

open access: yesRevista Portuguesa de Pneumologia, 2009
Complicated parapneumonic effusion is one in which an invasive procedure is necessary for its resolution and empyema means pus in the pleural space. An early diagnosis and therapy of these conditions results in less morbidity and mortality.

The specific polysaccharides of Types I, II, and III pneumococcus. A revision of methods and data

open access: yes, 1936
For some years it has become increasingly evident that the methods originally proposed (1) for the isolation of the soluble specific substance (S) of pneumococcus were in need of revision, Avery and Goebel (2) and Enders and Pappenheimer (3) showed that ...

Pneumococcus uses COMMD2 to alter host cellular immunity

open access: yes
NF-κB driven cellular immunity is essential for both pro- and anti-inflammatory responses to microbes, which makes it one of the most frequently targeted pathways by bacteria during pathogenesis.
