Evidence of airborne excretion of Pneumocystis carinii during infection in immunocompetent rats. Lung involvement and antibody response. [PDF]
To better understand the role of immunocompetent hosts in the diffusion of Pneumocystis in the environment, airborne shedding of Pneumocystis carinii in the surrounding air of experimentally infected Sprague Dawley rats was quantified by means of a real ...

Pneumocystis carinii karyotypes [PDF]
Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis techniques were used to examine the chromosomes of Pneumocystis carinii isolated from laboratory rats and two human subjects. P. carinii organisms isolated from each of four rat colonies and from two patients each produced a distinct band pattern, but in all cases the bands ranged in size from 300 to 700 kilobase pairs.

Pneumocystis carinii is an atypical fungus that causes pneumonia in immunocompromised individuals. P. carinii comprises a heterogeneous group of organisms that have been isolated from a wide range of mammalian host species. P. carinii infection is host species specific, the P. carinii organisms that infect humans have only been found in humans.

Mit-O-My I Can't Breath! Mitomycin C-Induced Pneumonitis Leading to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, a Rare Case. [PDF]
Mitomycin C (MMC) pneumonitis leading to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a rare and life‐threatening adverse reaction to MMC. Diagnosing MMC pneumonitis can be challenging as more frequent etiologies such as bacterial infections are often targeted first due to patients being immunocompromised from chemotherapy.

Dihydropteroate synthase gene mutations in Pneumocystis and sulfa resistance [PDF]
Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) remains a major cause of illness and death in HIV-infected persons. Sulfa drugs, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX) and dapsone are mainstays of PCP treatment and prophylaxis.
