Epidemiology of Viral Pneumonia

open access: yesClinics in Chest Medicine, 2017
The burden of pneumonia, including that due to respiratory viruses, is markedly higher in the very young (

Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...

Exploring the Causal Effects of Micronutrient Supplementation on Susceptibility to Viral Pneumonia: A Mendelian Randomization Study

open access: yesPathogens
Viral infections have been a severe challenge for global public health, and viral pneumonia is becoming increasingly critical in the post-pandemic era. Observational and basic studies have demonstrated a strong link between host nutrient status and anti ...

Advanced Dental Composite Technology via Bisilanized Dual‐Action Nanofillers for Biofilm Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal research strategy has led to the development of an innovative resin‐based composite (RBC) with dual antibacterial action. The S_CM‐RBC formula showed strong antibiofilm activity, excellent mechanical strength, and biosafety. It effectively controlled oral bacteria in prevention of caries recurrence, and maintained pulp health in a rat ...

Nasopharyngeal density of respiratory viruses in childhood pneumonia in a highly vaccinated setting: findings from a case–control study

open access: yesBMJ Open Respiratory Research, 2020
Background Detection of pneumonia-causing respiratory viruses in the nasopharynx of asymptomatic children has made their actual contribution to pneumonia unclear.

Comparative incidence of early and late bloodstream and respiratory tract co-infection in patients admitted to ICU with COVID-19 pneumonia versus Influenza A or B pneumonia versus no viral pneumonia: wales multicentre ICU cohort study

open access: yesCritical Care, 2022
Objective The aim is to characterise early and late respiratory and bloodstream co-infection in patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) with SARS-CoV-2-related acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (AHRF) needing respiratory support in seven ICUs ...

Rational Design of Broad‐Spectrum Anti‐Enteroviral Molecular Glues Targeting Enteroviral RNAi Suppressors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By leveraging this homodimerization mechanism, molecular glues were rationally designed to induce dysfunctional 3A dimerization, thereby restoring antiviral RNAi. The optimal molecular glue, VTP‐32, demonstrated potent and pan‐enterovirus (groups A, B, D) antiviral effects.

Secondary organizing pneumonia following viral pneumonia caused by severe influenza B: a case report and literature reviews

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2017
Background Some reported that organizing pneumonia (OP) may occur after influenza A infections including swine-origin influenza A (H1N1). However, OP associated with influenza B infection has never been reported.

Interstitial murine cytomegalovirus pneumonia after irradiation: characterization of cells that limit viral replication during established infection of the lungs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Interstitial pneumonia associated with viral replication in lung tissue was observed after cytomegalovirus infection of total-body gamma-irradiated mice, whereas in noncompromised hosts the lungs were not affected and virus multiplication was restricted ...
