The concept of finite limit of a function at one point as explained by students of non-compulsory secondary education [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We review various educational studies of the mathematical concept of limit of a function at a point that indicate how colloquial uses of the terms “to approach,” “to tend toward,” “to reach,” “to exceed” and “limit” influence students’ conceptions of ...

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Evaluating metrics of spectral quality in nonuniform sampling

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Open
In pursuit of an adaptive approach to nonuniform sampling (NUS), two critical determinants arise: (1) the ability to determine an endpoint by way of quantitatively assessing spectral quality and (2) the ability to systematically determine what additional

Quality management systems as a solution for the control of spread of alien species

open access: yes, 2005
One of the many risks in the plant production and international plant trading businesses is the spread of alien species. Businesses know that they not only sell products, but also their business image. The spread of alien species is also an image problem

Autophagy and mitophagy in pancreatic β‐cell homeostasis and their involvement in diabetes pathophysiology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Euclid Near-Infrared Imaging Reduction Pipeline - Point Spread Function

open access: yes, 2019
Description of the software, as part of the NIR imaging reduction pipeline, dedicated to derive the Point Spread Function model for individual dithered observations as well as for stacked frames collected by the Euclid space ...

Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...
