The uniqueness of the SDPS-set of the symplectic dual polar space $DW(4n-1,q)$, $n \geq 2$ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
SDPS-sets are very nice sets of points in dual polar spaces which themselves carry the structure of dual polar spaces. They were introduced in \cite{DB-V:2} because they gave rise to new valuations and hyperplanes of dual polar spaces.

The Association of Polar Faculae with Polar Magnetic Patches Examined with Hinode Observations

open access: yes, 2013
The magnetic properties of the Sun's polar faculae are investigated with spectropolarimetric observations of the north polar region obtained by the Hinode satellite in 2007 September.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Public knowledge about polar regions increases while concerns remain unchanged [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The authors of this brief conduct the first comparative analysis of the polar questions that were part of the National Opinion Research Center\u27s 2006 and 2010 General Social Survey.

Can surface flux transport account for the weak polar field in cycle 23?

open access: yes, 2011
To reproduce the weak magnetic field on the polar caps of the Sun observed during the declining phase of cycle 23 poses a challenge to surface flux transport models since this cycle has not been particularly weak.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Open Access Data in Polar and Cryospheric Remote Sensing

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2014
This paper aims to introduce the main types and sources of remotely sensed data that are freely available and have cryospheric applications. We describe aerial and satellite photography, satellite-borne visible, near-infrared and thermal infrared sensors,

Regional polar warming linked to poleward moisture transport variability

open access: yesEnvironmental Research: Climate, 2023
Polar warming, ice melt and strong precipitation events are strongly affected by episodic poleward advection of warm and moist air (Woods and Caballero 2016 J. Clim. 29 4473–85; Wille et al 2019 Nat. Geosci.

Dipole Interaction Mediated Laser Cooling of Polar Molecules to Ultra-cold Temperatures

open access: yes, 2012
We present a method to design a finite decay rate for excited rotational states in polar molecules. The setup is based on a hybrid system of polar molecules with atoms driven into a Rydberg state.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
