A Highly Flexible Polarization Demultiplexing Scheme for Short-Reach Transmission

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
We propose and experimentally demonstrate an effective and highly flexible polarization demultiplexing scheme based on a Stokes analyzer, which could be also applied to the nonorthogonal polarization division multiplexing (NPDM) schemes.

Simulation of 1 x 2 OTDM router employing symmetric Mach-Zehnder switches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In high-speed all-optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) routers it is desirable to carry out data routing, switching, clock recovery and synchronisation in the optical domain in order to avoid the bottleneck due to optoelectronics conversion.

Polarization division multiplexing for optical data communications

open access: yesOptical Interconnects XVIII, 2018
Multiple parallel channels are ubiquitous in optical communications, with spatial division multiplexing (separate physical paths) and wavelength division multiplexing (separate optical wavelengths) being the most common forms. Here, we investigate the viability of polarization division multiplexing, the separation of distinct parallel optical ...

Fibre segment interferometry using code-division multiplexed optical signal processing for strain sensing applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A novel optical signal processing scheme for multiplexing fibre segment interferometers is proposed. The continuous-wave, homodyne technique combines code-division multiplexing with single-sideband modulation.

New orbital angular momentum multiplexing strategy: beyond the capacity limit of free-space optical communication [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Free space optical (FSO) communication can exploit mode-division multiplexing using orthogonal spatial modes of Laguerre Gaussian beams, such as orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes, wherein OAM multiplexing offers potentially infinite information capacity due to the arbitrary quantization of OAM.

Toward the Shannon Limit of Spectral Efficiency

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2011
Progress in high-capacity optical communication systems in 2010 is reviewed, with spectral efficiency (SE) as the main figure of merit. Advanced modulation formats, such as quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) and orthogonal frequency-division ...

Incoherent mode division multiplexing for high-security information encryption [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
In the age of information explosion, the conventional optical communication protocols are rapidly reaching the limits of their capacity, as almost all available degrees of freedom (e.g., wavelength, polarization) for division multiplexing have been explored to date.

Quantum information processing with space-division multiplexing optical fibres

open access: yes, 2020
The optical fibre is an essential tool for our communication infrastructure since it is the main transmission channel for optical communications. The latest major advance in optical fibre technology is spatial division multiplexing (SDM), where new fibre

A versatile source of polarisation entangled photons for quantum network applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We report a versatile and practical approach for generating high-quality polarization entanglement in a fully guided-wave fashion. Our setup relies on a high-brilliance type-0 waveguide generator producing paired photon at a telecom wavelength associated

Optical Transport Architecture for the Fronthaul Segment in a 5G NR Network based on Polarization and Wavelength Multiplexing

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería, 2023
This paper presents the design of an optical transport architecture for the fronthaul segment in a 5G New Radio (NR) network based on both polarization and wavelength multiplexing using Polarization Splitters (PS) and an Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG),
