Observation of Polarization Singularities at the Nanoscale

open access: yesConference on Lasers and Electro-Optics/International Quantum Electronics Conference, 2009
With a phase-sensitive near-field microscope we measure independently the two in-plane electric field components of light propagating through a 2D photonic crystal waveguide and the phase difference between them. Consequently, we are able to reconstruct the electric vector field distribution with subwavelength resolution.

Coherence-induced depolarization effects in polarization singular beams

open access: yes, 2022
We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally coherence-induced depolarization effects in generic and higher index polarization singular beams endowed with C-point (or V-point) polarization singularity.

Toroidal polarization vortices in tightly focused beams with singularity

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика, 2020
In this paper, we numerically investigated tight focusing of cylindrical vector beams of the sec-ond order using Richards-Wolf formulae. It was shown that intensity rings where the Poynting vector was equal to zero appeared not only in the focal plane ...

Spin Hall Effect in Paraxial Vectorial Light Beams with an Infinite Number of Polarization Singularities

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
Elements of micromachines can be driven by light, including structured light with phase and/or polarization singularities. We investigate here a paraxial vector Gaussian beam with an infinite number of polarization singularities residing evenly on a ...

Polarization singularities: Topological and dynamical aspects

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2023
The review describes general principles and characteristics of inhomogeneously polarized paraxial optical fields and, especially, the polarization singularities (PSs).

New mechanism for polarization singularity of vector vortex beams

open access: yes, 2020
It was recently realized that the polarization bases of the plane-wave modes in the integral representation of a light beam need to be determined by a degree of freedom arising from the divergence-free Maxwell's equation.

Polarization conversion when focusing cylindrically polarized vortex beams

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Currently, cylindrical beams with radial or azimuthal polarization are being used successfully for the optical manipulation of micro- and nano-particles as well as in microscopy, lithography, nonlinear optics, materials processing, and telecommunication ...

Sharp focusing of a light field with polarization and phase singularities of an arbitrary order [PDF]

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика, 2019
Using the Richards-Wolf formalism, we obtain general expressions for all components of the electric and magnetic strength vectors near the sharp focus of an optical vortex with the topological charge m and nth-order azimuthal polarization.

Illustrations of Bessel Beams in s-Polarization, p-Polarization, Transverse Polarization, and Longitudinal Polarization

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
The generation of Bessel beams (BBs) and their characterization in a wide range of the electromagnetic spectrum are well established. The unique properties of BBs, including their non-diffracting and self-healing nature, make them efficient for use in ...

Hilbert’s Hotel in polarization singularities

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2017
We demonstrate theoretically how the creation of polarization singularities by the evolution of a fractional nonuniform polarization optical element involves the peculiar mathematics of countably infinite sets in the form of "Hilbert's Hotel." Two distinct topological processes can be observed, depending on the structure of the fractional optical ...
