Effect ofVitreoscillahemoglobin biosynthesis inEscherichia colion production of poly(β-hydroxybutyrate) and fermentative parameters [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2002
In order to attain high cell density and low cost production of poly(beta-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB), the Vitreoscilla globin gene (vgb) was introduced into a novel recombinant strain, Escherichia coli VG1 (pTU14). Experiments showed that the expression of vgb was under the regulation of dissolved oxygen (DO) in broth and the introduction of vgb in VG1 ...

Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate production by lactic acid bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1998
Poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate was determined in lactic acid bacteria belonging to the genera Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, Pediococcus and Streptococcus. Lactobacilli were grown in MRS broth, the others were grown in Elliker broth medium. Cell biomass was obtained by centrifugation. The cell walls were lysed with sodium hypochlorite.

Structural aspects of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate granules [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1992
Conventional electron microscopic preparation and imaging techniques applied to the study of the ultrastructure of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) (and related compounds) inclusion bodies provided information on cytological aspects such as shape, dimensions, and location of these inclusion bodies within cells harvested from various growth conditions and ...

Factors affecting poly-β-hydroxybutyrate accumulation in cyanobacteria and in purple non-sulfur bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1992
Spirulina maxima and Rhodopseudomonas palustris, which are known to be capable of synthesizing poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB), were grown under different conditions in order to investigate the metabolic significance of PHB synthesis in phototrophic microorganisms. The intracellular concentration of PHB in S.

Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate in staphylococci [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1992
Staphylococci--chemoorganotrophic bacteria whose main habitats are human and animal organisms--can accumulate poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) in their cells. The polymer is metabolized in endogenous turnovers preceding degradation of aminoacids, proteins and RNA. PHB depolymerase was not found in staphylococci but beta-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase was

An investigation of the metabolism of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate and its possible role in nitrogen fixation in soybean root nodules [PDF]

open access: yes
A major objective of this investigation was to determine the possible roles, if any, of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate and products of its metabolic breakdown in symbiotic nitrogen fixation by nodule bacteroids.
