Transcripts enriched in codons that trigger P‐site tRNA‐mediated mRNA decay possess stable mRNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
PTMD codons were first described by Mendel et al. as mediators of an mRNA decay pathway dependent on the human protein CNOT3, homologous to yeast Not5. Our findings confirm that PTMD codons destabilize transcripts; however, unlike in yeast, the human pathway specifically targets and slightly destabilizes primarily stable mRNAs.

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...

Arginine methylation of Sam68 and SLM proteins negatively regulates their poly(U) RNA binding activity

open access: yes, 2007
Sam68 (Src substrate associated during mitosis) and its homologues, SLM-1 and SLM-2 (Sam68-like mammalian proteins), are RNA binding proteins and contain the arg-gly (RG) repeats, in which arginine residues are methylated by the protein arginine ...

Evaluating the involvement of autolysosomes in the nuclear translocation of fluorescent proteins

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Endogenously expressed fluorescent proteins can be degraded by autophagy and transported to cell nuclei via the nuclear pore complex. But in some cell lines, for example, HeLa cells which are positive for immunoreactivity of a receptor ligand, such as UCN I, in cell nuclei, fusion of autolysosome with the nuclear envelope is involved in the nuclear ...

Cooperative binding of a platinum metallointercalation reagent to poly(A)•poly(U)

open access: yes, 1979
The cationic complex (2-hydroxyethanethiolato)(2,2',2"-terpyridine) platinum(II), [(terpy)Pt( HET)]^+, binds cooperatively to poly(A)•poly(U) by intercalation.

Effect of Platelet-activating Factor on in vitro and in vivo Interleukin-6 Production

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 1994
The aim of the present study was to investigate the possible effect of platelet-activating factor (PAF), by comparison with interleukin-1β and polyriboinositic/polyribocytidylic (poly I–C) acid, on IL-6 production by L 929 mouse fibroblasts.

A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly

A poly(U)-binding factor stimulating EF-1 activity in the wheat germ soluble fraction

open access: yes, 1983
A poly(U)-binding activity is present in the high-speed supernatant fraction of embryo homogenates from wheat seeds. The factor responsible for such activity was found to have a stimulatory effect on the elongation factor 1 (EF-1).

Innate Immune Reprogramming Mediated by Endogenous Retroelement Dysregulation Drives Multiple Sclerosis Progression

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Epigenetic reprogramming in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) and downstream myeloid cells, mediated by H3.3 downregulation and endogenous retroelement (ERE) overexpression, contributes to the progression of multiple sclerosis (MS). ABSTRACT Background Skewed myelopoiesis in the bone marrow has been identified as a key driver of multiple ...

The G/U ratios in messenger RNA (mRNA) sequences, the polyadenylation [poly(A)] tail attachment position of A-type poly(A) sites, the poly(A) tail attachment position of non-A-type poly(A) sites, and the poly(A) tail starting position.

open access: yes, 2013
The species were sorted from smallest (#1) to largest (#18) by their mRNA G/U ratios. The order of species from 1 to 18 is Medicago truncatula (1P), Arabidopsis thaliana (2P), fruit fly (3A), poplar (4P), zebrafish (5P), chicken (6A), cattle (7A), rice ...
