Strategies for bioremediation of polychlorinated biphenyls
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2004Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are serious environmental pollutants that threaten both the natural ecosystem and human health. For remediation of environments contaminated with PCBs, several approaches that exploit the potential of microbes to degrade PCBs have been developed.

Toxicity of Polychlorinated Biphenyls in Poultry
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1972SUMMARY Polychlorinated biphenyls (pcb) used as a heat-exchange fluid in pasteurizing equipment used to destroy salmonella in fish meal leaked into 16,000 tons of Peruvian fish meal. Some of the fish meal was incorporated into feed and produced toxic effects in chickens and residue problems in their meat and eggs.

Polychlorinated Biphenyls in the Global Ecosystem
Nature, 1968Polychlorinated biphenyls are widely dispersed in the global ecosystem, and are powerful inducers of hepatic enzymes which degrade oestradiol. Together with other chlorinated biocides, such as DDT, they could account for a large part of the aberration in calcium metabolism which has been observed in many species of birds since the Second World War.
