The Risk of Polychlorinated Dibenzodioxins in Human Milk
Journal of Human Lactation, 1988Recently, the news media have reported the presence of the carcinogenic compounds commonly called dioxins in human milk. Based on published Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) levels, the amounts of dioxins in human milk are below the level shown to have any toxic effect in test animals, but above the level recommended by the EPA as safe.

The effect of solvent on the extraction of two polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and five polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDDs) from charcoal is investigated and the variations in recoveries of these analytes are explained. The extraction is performed using chromatographic elution, ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of probe- and bath-type ...

Polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans in the aluminium recycling process
Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis, 1999Abstract At a pilot-scale rotary furnace, aluminium scrap, to which organic material was attached, was molten together with salt at temperatures of ≈700–800°C. Because these conditions are favorable for the production of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/F) the following measures were investigated to reduce PCDD/F emissions from ...

Polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans in butter from different states in Australia
Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2001Nine samples of butter from producers in various states of Australia were analysed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs). Detectable concentrations of 2,3,7,8-chlorine substituted PCDD/Fs were found in all samples.

SAMPLE PREPARATION FOR EFFECTIVE DETERMINATION OF POLYCHLORINATED DIBENZODIOXINS FROM LEACHATES
Journal of Liquid Chromatography & Related Technologies, 2001Four pretreatment methods, including LLE-HPLC, LLE- DMSO, SPE-HPLC and SPE-DMSO are compared for the effective determination of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDDs) from a leachate sample. For the LLE-HPLC method, liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) with dichloromethane is used for the initial extraction of the analytes from leachate.

Supercritical fluid extraction of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans from soil samples
Chemosphere, 1992The extraction with supercritical CO2 is compared with the well known soxhlet method in order to reduce the required time for the extraction of soil samples. In the first step of this study extractions were carried out using sand spiked with three chloroorganic compounds.

Iron-catalyzed diesel particle filters (DPFs) are widely used for particle abatement. Active catalyst particles, so-called fuel-borne catalysts (FBCs), are formed in situ, in the engine, when combusting precursors, which were premixed with the fuel. The obtained iron oxide particles catalyze soot oxidation in filters. Iron-catalyzed DPFs are considered

Eighteen teachers from a highly contaminated school and 11 teachers from a control school participated in this study. Total polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) indoor air concentration (six indicator congeners x 5) was beyond 12000 ng/m3 in some rooms of the contaminated school. PCB 28 and PCB 52 were the prevailing congeners.

Polychlorinated dibenzodioxins, PCDDs, and polychlorinated dibenzofurans, PCDFs, have the potential to accumulate in sediments given their low water solubilities and correspondingly high sorbent potential to solids. There are numerous sources of these compounds which include not only waste products from current or past manufacturing of specific ...
