Photochemical Disruption of Polyelectrolyte Multilayers
Advanced Materials, 2012Photoreactive polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEMs) that dissolve upon UV irradiation are described. Light-induced switching of the formal charge of a photoreactive polycation resulted in repulsive interlayer electrostatic forces, and caused the dissolution of PEM films.

Salt Softening of Polyelectrolyte Multilayer Capsules
Langmuir, 2005The changes in the morphology and the mechanical properties of hollow polyelectrolyte multilayer capsules made from poly(styrenesulfonate)/poly(allylamine hydrochloride) in response to added salt were investigated. We found that capsules shrink in response to salt exposure.

Formation of Polyelectrolyte Multilayers
Langmuir, 2000A mechanism for the formation of polyelectrolyte multilayers is proposed. All of the experiments on such systems show that there is strong interpenetration of consecutive layers. We explain the very strong stability of the multilayers by the complexation between polyelectrolytes of opposite signs.

Engineering Thiolated Surfaces with Polyelectrolyte Multilayers
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2019Interfaces bearing firmly attached thiol groups are useful for many applications requiring the versatile and facile chemistry of the -SH functionality. In this work, rugged ultrathin films were prepared on substrates using layer-by-layer assembly. The surface of these smooth films was capped with a co-polymer containing benzyl mercaptan units.
