Liposomal Polyene Antibiotics

2005
Polyene antibiotics (i.e., amphotericin B and nystatin) have been incorporated into lipid-based delivery systems to decrease their toxicity and enhance their therapeutic index, the most common being liposomes. This chapter describes the protocols for preparing liposomal amphotericin B and determining the efficacy and toxicity of the formulations in ...

Excitons in the polyenes

Molecular Physics, 1973
The excited electronic states of an infinite, all-trans, polyene are calculated using a Wannier function expansion. The relationship between these states and the excited electronic states of the finite polyenes, as found in molecular orbital configuration interaction studies, is explored.

On the chromism of polyenes

Chemical Physics Letters, 2008
At a constant temperature, the change in energy of the 1Ag → 1Bu electronic transition of a polyene with the solvent depends on solvent polarizability. For the same solvent and polyene, as the temperature varies, however, the energy of the 1Ag → 1Bu electronic transition not only depends on polarizability but also quite strongly on alterations of the ...

Polyenes and Polyvinylenes

2018
Although not produced via the direct polymerization of acetylene, the following chapter will introduce the history of two earlier materials structurally related to the later formal polyacetylene. These two classes of materials were known as polyenes and polyvinylenes, two terms that at times have been used synonymously with polyacetylene.
