Ciguatera poisoning is linked to the ingestion of seafood that is contaminated with ciguatoxins (CTXs). The structural variability of these polyether toxins in nature remains poorly understood due to the low concentrations present even in highly toxic ...

Ciguatoxins are polyether marine toxins that act as sodium channel activators. These toxins cause ciguatera, one of the most widespread nonbacterial forms of food poisoning, which presents several symptoms in humans including long-term neurological ...

Environmental Identification of Novel Enzymes for Polyurethane and Polyamide Degradation
Heteroatom‐containing plastics such as polyurethanes and nylons are produced at scale yet remain largely unrecycled. Biocatalysts offer a promising route to depolymerization under mild conditions. Here, we present a screening platform for the discovery of novel polyurethane‐ and nylon‐degrading enzymes from environmental samples and demonstrate ...

Alternative method to detect compounds produced by Gambierdiscus spp.
Ciguatoxins (CTXs) and CTX precursors are produced by several Gambierdiscus spp. These polyether toxins are associated to ciguatera fish poisoning (CFP). In addition to CTX, maitotoxins (MTX) and gambierol are also produced by these dinoflagellates.

Ciguatoxins: Cyclic Polyether Modulators of Voltage-gated Iion Channel Function
Ciguatoxins are cyclic polyether toxins, derived from marine dinoflagellates, which are responsible for the symptoms of ciguatera poisoning. Ingestion of tropical and subtropical fin fish contaminated by ciguatoxins results in an illness characterised by

Polyether toxin analysis of the top minnow(Poecilia vitatta)
A detailed toxicity analysis was performed on the top minnow utilizing the stick‐enzyme immunoassay (S‐EIA), the mouse bioassay, the guinea pig atrium assay and fluorometric HPLC. The S‐EIA test indicated 96% of the samples tested contained polyether toxins. Mice injected with acetone extractions from top minnow displayed symptoms of toxicity while the

Field‐programmed anisotropy imparts material‐level intelligence to soft composites. Magnetic torque dynamics drive magneto‐piezoelectric nanowires from random dispersion into deterministic axial alignment. The resulting hierarchical percolation networks confine electromechanical coupling to specific axes and intrinsically decouple superposed force ...

A New Cytotoxicity Assay for Brevetoxins Using Fluorescence Microscopy
Brevetoxins are a family of ladder-framed polyether toxins produced during blooms of the marine dinoflagellate, Karenia brevis. Consumption of shellfish or finfish exposed to brevetoxins can lead to the development of neurotoxic shellfish poisoning.

The marine polyether toxin, 45-hydroxyyessotoxin, was isolated together with yessotoxin from the scallop, Patinopecten yessoensis. The 45-hydroxy group in the side chain was esterified with (S)- and (R)-alpha-methoxyalpha-trifluoromethylphenylacetic acids (MTPA).
