Shape‐Stabilization of Phase Change Materials with Carbon‐Conscious Poly(hydroxy)Urethane Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Poly(hydroxy)urethane (PHU) foam, derivable from carbon dioxide (CO2) and bio‐based resources, is a promising material platform for shape‐stabilizing phase change materials (PCMs). We demonstrate the encapsulation of both paraffins and calcium chloride hexahydrate in PHU foam, achieving 48 stable thermal cycles by introducing 5 wt.% barium carbonate ...

Biofilm Control by Active Topography with Mucin Coating

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports a new antifouling strategy based on a bioinspired design. Mucin coating enhances biofilm control by active topography with beating micron‐sized pillars. Besides the mechanical force of beating pillars, the antibiofilm activities also involve biological factors since mucin coating inhibits swarming motility and c‐di‐GMP synthesis in ...

Crystallization of YIoQ, a GTPase of unknown function essential for Bacillus subtilis viability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
YLoQ is a putative ATP/GTP-binding protein of unknown function identified from the complete sequence of the Bacillus subtilis genome. A gene-knockout programme established that yloQ is one of a set of some 270 indispensable genes for the viability of ...

Subdiffusive model of substance releasing from a thick membrane [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
We study both theoretically and experimentally the process of subdiffusive substance releasing from a thick membrane. The theoretical model uses the subdiffusion equation with fractional time derivative and specific boundary conditions at the membrane surfaces. Using a special \textit{ansatz} we find analytical formulas describing the time evolution of

Hydration of Polyethylene Glycol-Grafted Liposomes [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1998
This study aimed to characterize the effect of polyethylene glycol of 2000 molecular weight (PEG2000) attached to a dialkylphosphatidic acid (dihexadecylphosphatidyl (DHP)-PEG2000) on the hydration and thermodynamic stability of lipid assemblies. Differential scanning calorimetry, densitometry, and ultrasound velocity and absorption measurements were ...

H2O2‐Generating Advanced Nanomaterials for Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
H2O2‐generating nanoplatforms can exploit tumor redox imbalance for O2 and toxic reactive oxygen species generation, leading to hypoxia reversal, and apoptosis of cancer cells, respectively. This review highlights the mechanisms of these nanoplatforms, including exogenous H₂O₂ delivery, endogenous amplification, and metal peroxides, which leads to ...

Alleviation of Aging‐Related Hallmarks in a Mouse Model of Progeria via a Nanoparticle‐Based Artificial Transcription Factor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oct4‐nanoscript, a biomimetic nanoparticle‐based artificial transcription factor, precisely regulates cellular rejuvenation by activating Oct4 target genes, restoring epigenetic marks, and reducing DNA damage. In a progeria model, it effectively rescued aging‐associated pathologies and extended lifespan.
