What is the origin of chirality in the cholesteric phase of virus suspensions ? [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. 90.198302. 2003, 2003
We report a study of the cholesteric phase in monodisperse suspensions of the rod-like virus fd sterically stabilized with the polymer polyethylene glycol (PEG). After coating the virus with neutral polymers, the phase diagram and nematic order parameter of the fd-PEG system then become independent of ionic strength.

Phosphorus Contamination in Polyethylene Glycol [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1978
Concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Ca, Mg, K, and P were examined in untreated and ion exchange resin-treated solutions of polyethylene glycol, molecular weight 3000 to 3700, polyethylene glycol (PEG 4000). Relatively high levels of P were found in untreated PEF-4000 solutions.

New Synthesis Route for PHD Polyols [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The synthesis of polyurea dispersion polyols (PHD) was developed using a new route via depolymerization of polyurethane polyureas by a mixture of at least two glycols in the presence of a consumable catalyst, i. e. a secondary aliphatic amine.

Antimicrobial effect of intracanal substances

open access: yesJournal of Applied Oral Science, 2007
In some situations, endodontic infections do not respond to therapeutic protocol. In these cases, it is suggested the administration of an alternative intracanal medication that presents a wide spectrum of action and has an in-depth effect on the root ...

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) study of thick lamellar stacks of phospholipid bilayers [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 77, 021905 (2008) (8 pages)., 2007
We report an Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) study on thick multi lamellar stacks of approx. 10 mum thickness (about 1500 stacked membranes) of DMPC (1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phoshatidylcholine) deposited on silicon wafers. These thick stacks could be stabilized for measurements under excess water or solution.

Microscale adhesion patterns for the precise localization of amoeba [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In order to get a better understanding of amoeba-substrate interactions in the processes of cellular adhesion and directional movement, we engineered glass surfaces with defined local adhesion characteristics at a micrometric scale. Amoeba (Dictyostelium dicoideum) is capable to adhere to various surfaces independently of the presence of extracellular ...

Investigation of the Influence of Antioxidant Compositions on Development of Microbiological Spoilage in Storage of Fruits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The studies are devoted to the scientific grounding of expedience of after-harvest processing by antioxidant compositions for preventing the development of pathogenic microflora on fruit surfaces during a long storage.
