Polyisoprenyl phosphates in intracellular signalling

open access: closedNature, 1997
In response to environmental stimuli, leukocyte membrane remodelling generates biologically active lipids that can serve as both intra- and extracellular mediators. There are several classes of lipids that can mediate inflammatory reactions. We report here on a new intracellular lipid signal that regulates oxygen-radical formation in neutrophils, a key

A Novel Polyisoprenyl Phosphate Signaling Cascade in Human Neutrophils

open access: closedAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2000
Abstract:Activation of neutrophil (PMN) surface receptors can evoke inflammation and tissue injury via aberrant release of excess effectors. The molecular mechanisms involved in host protection and control of PMN responses have yet to be defined. As Billah and coworkers (1989) and Exton (1997), for example, have pointed out, phospholipase D (PLD ...

Characterization of polyisoprenyl phosphate phosphatase activity in rat liver

open access: closedArchives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1986
The polyisoprenyl phosphate dephosphorylating activity of rat liver has been investigated with regard to substrate specificity, subcellular distribution, and transmembrane orientation. Total liver microsomes were employed as a source of enzymatic activity against a variety of 32P-labeled substrates.

Polyisoprenyl Phosphate Signaling: Topography in Human Neutrophils

open access: closedBiochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2000
To determine the relationship of polyisoprenyl phosphate (PIPP) remodeling and signaling to the activation state of human neutrophils (PMN), we examined the impact of leukotriene B(4) (LTB(4)) on the conversion of a unique bioactive isoprenoid (presqualene diphosphate: PSDP), recently identified as a novel endogenous signaling molecule.

Characterization of Mannolipids Formed in a Calf Pancreatic Microsomal Fraction from Guanosine Diphosphate [14C]Mannose and either Endogenous Lipid or Exogenous Polyisoprenyl Phosphates

open access: closedBiochemical Society Transactions, 1973
In some glycoproteins, a glycosylamine bond between 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-~-glucose and the amide group of asparagine serves to link oligosaccharide with peptide. A common oligosaccharide unit containing 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-~-glucose and D-mannose residues has been suggested for the linkage region of these glycoproteins (Lee & Scocca, 1972).
