Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

Hydrogen Detection with SAW Polymer/Quantum Dots Sensitive Films

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Regarding the use of hydrogen as a fuel, it is necessary to measure its concentration in air at room temperature. In this paper, sensitive composite films have been developed for surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors, using quantum dots (QDs) and polymers.

Phase diagram for a mixture of colloids and polymers with equal size [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present the phase diagram of a colloid-polymer mixture in which the radius a of the colloidal spheres is approximately the same as the radius R of a polymer coil (q=R/a1).

The solution supramolecular structure of α2 → 8 polysialic acid suggests a structural cause for its low immunogenicity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
α2 → 8 polysialic acid elicits poor immunogenicity. Small‐angle scattering shows a supramolecular structure with parallel‐chain binding, although in different forms at μm and mm calcium. The major histocompatibility complex requires molecular weights around 2000 Da to produce antibodies, and 2000 Da polysialic oligomers will bind in these structures ...

Carbon Nanotubes and Carbon Nanotube Structures Used for Temperature Measurement

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Accurate measurement of temperatures with low power consumption with the highest sensitivity and smallest possible elements is still a challenge. The thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have suggested that their use ...

Quasi-melt Processes For Single Polymer Composites And Products Thereof [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Processes and compounds are described herein for single polymer composites based on a process for making the single polymer composites that includes the steps of heating a matrix material to create polymer melt, cooling the polymer melt to below its Tm ...

A flexible polymer chain in a critical solvent: Coil or globule?

open access: yes, 2015
We study the behavior of a flexible polymer chain in the presence of a low-molecular weight solvent in the vicinity of a liquid-gas critical point within the framework of a self-consistent field theory.

Ignition mechanisms in polymers and polymer nanocomposites [PDF]

open access: yesPolymers for Advanced Technologies, 2011
This paper addresses the behavior of thermoplastic polymers and polymer nanocomposites prior to ignition, under irradiation in a cone calorimeter. Insights into the physical evolution of material controlling ignition are obtained from the measurement of the condensed phase surface temperature and by the observation of specimen residues obtained from ...

On‐treatment dynamics of circulating extracellular vesicles in the first‐line setting of patients with advanced non‐small cell lung cancer: the LEXOVE prospective study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LEXOVE prospective study evaluated plasma cell‐free extracellular vesicle (cfEV) dynamics using Bradford assay and dynamic light scattering in metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer patients undergoing first‐line treatments, correlating a ∆cfEV < 20% with improved median progression‐free survival in responders versus non‐responders.
