Autoxidation of Polysorbates

Aqueous solutions of polysorbate 20 undergo autoxidation on storage, with the peroxide number increasing and subsequently decreasing again, the acidity increasing continuously, the pH and surface tension falling and tending to level off, and the cloud point dropping sharply until turbidity begins at room temperature.

CMC of Polysorbates

The CMC of a series of polysorbates was determined using a surface tension method. The CMC values obtained did not vary to any appreciable extent from those determined by other techniques, indicating that the procedure adopted was reliable, simple, and fast. The application of the usual correction factors was not necessary in the calculation of the CMC
