Molecular and Genetic Approaches to Rust Resistance (Melampsora sp.) in Poplar (Populus sp.)
1996Various Melampsora rust races are causing defoliations on susceptible cultivars in commercial poplar plantations. Genetic and molecular analyses of parents and families of a factorial mating design have been investigated to determine components of resistance to rust. One genomic area was revealed which was involved in qualitative resistance.

Summary Four poplar clones ( Populus sp., Beaupre, Raspalje, Fritzi Pauley and Robusta) were grown at low and high photon flux densities (PFD) and the photosynthetic characteristics of the leaves were examined and compared using photoacoustic and fluorometric techniques. The growth of all the clones (shoot length and leaf area) was markedly reduced

Ozone-induced necrosis and increased peroxidase activity in hybrid poplar (Populus sp.) leaves
Environmental and Experimental Botany, 1986Abstract Peroxidase activity was assayed in leaves from two positions (nodes 5 and 15) along the stems of four clones of hybrid poplar ( Populus sp.) that had been fumigated with ozone at 0.15 μl/l for up to 6 weeks. Two clones were designated ozone-sensitive, and two were designated ozone-resistant according to the amount of ozone-induced injury ...

Biomass production of hybrid poplar (Populus sp.) grown on deep-trenched municipal biosolids
Ecological Engineering, 2008Abstract Environmentally sustainable options for recycling municipal biosolids generated from wastewater treatment plants are needed. We measured the wood biomass production of a 50 ha hybrid poplar ( Populus spp.) tree farm where biosolids were applied at a rate of 380 metric tonnes per hectare in deep trench rows (46 cm deep, 107 cm wide, and 20 ...

Criconemoides Grassator N. Sp. From Yellow Poplar (Liriodendron Tulipifera) in West Virginia 1)
Nematologica, 1967Soil and root samples from a native stand of yellow-poplar yielded Criconemoides axeste Fassuliotis & Williamson, 1959, and an undescribed representative of Criconemoides Taylor, 1936. The predominant species, C. grassator n. sp. differed from all the other representatives of the genus, except C.

Identification of Genetic Polymorphism of Poplar (Populus sp.) by Dna Marker Technology
1998In order to identify new Populus lines, STS (Sequence Tagged Site) and RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA) marker analysis were performed on eight Populus deltoides x Populus deltoides hybrids and Populus deltoiudes (77/51) which was used as control. For RAPD analysis STS primers were used in single forms.

A Model of Poplar (Populus sp.) Physiology and Morphology Based on Relational Growth Grammars
2007Functional-structural plant models (FSPMs), combining the physiological function of a plant with its architecture, require precise and transparent specifications. This can be seen as a new challenge to the design of programming languages. Here we introduce, exemplarily for a model of young poplar trees, our new formalism of relational growth grammars ...

Black spot disease in poplar is a disease of the leaf caused by fungus. The major pathogen is Marssonina brunnea f. sp. multigermtubi. To date, little is known about the molecular mechanism of poplar (M. brunnea) interaction. In order to identify the proteins related to disease resistance and understand its molecular basis, the clone "NL895" (P ...

One of the biggest challenges for using lignocellulosic biomass to generate biofuels is the pretreatment process, which involves the breakdown of the plant cell wall structure to release cellulose and hemicellulose from lignin. The structural mechanisms of lignocellulose breakdown during pretreatment are not yet understood.
