Ageing populations: new challenges in longevity
Background High-income countries experienced unprecedented gains in life expectancy throughout the twentieth century. However, recent evidence suggests that these gains have slowed, especially at older ages.

Challenges in the case-based surveillance of infectious diseases
To effectively inform infectious disease control strategies, accurate knowledge of the pathogen’s transmission dynamics is required. Since the timings of infections are rarely known, estimates of the infection incidence, which is crucial for ...

A scale-invariant model of marine population dynamics
A striking feature of the marine ecosystem is the regularity in its size spectrum: the abundance of organisms as a function of their weight approximately follows a power law over almost ten orders of magnitude.

Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Morphology of Peripheral Blood Cells from Various Species of Turkish Herpetofauna
In this study, measurements of morphological and size parameters of peripheral blood cells (erythrocyte, leucocyte, thrombocyte) on blood smear preparation devices stained with Wright’s stain were given for 87 species from Turkish herpetofauna (19 ...
