Concomitant Infection With Porcine circovirus 2 and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus Does Not Increase Enteritis Severity in Experimentally Infected Weaned Piglets

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Young pigs are often coinfected with porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) and porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV). This study aimed to determine the impact of coinfection of pigs with PCV2 and PEDV. Forty 16‐day‐old crossbred mixed‐sex piglets were assigned to four groups (n = 10/group, NEG‐CONTROL, PCV2‐CONTROL, PCV2+PEDV, and PEDV‐CONTROL).

Engineered PCV2 VLPs for Antigen Delivery: A Platform for Next‐Generation Veterinary Vaccines

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The capsid (Cap) protein of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) self‐assembles into virus‐like particles (VLPs) that form stable, noninfectious nanoparticles with T = 1 icosahedral symmetry. Mimicking native virion architecture, these VLPs display antigens in a highly ordered array, conferring strong immunogenicity for both humoral and cellular responses.

A Rapid p72‐Targeting Colloidal Gold Immunochromatographic Strip for African Swine Fever Virus Detection

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
African swine fever (ASF) is a lethal, hemorrhagic, and highly contagious infectious disease caused by the African swine fever virus (ASFV). At present, ASFV has evolved into multiple variant strains with different levels of virulence in China, complicating the epidemiological landscape.

Porcine HMGCR Inhibits Porcine Circovirus Type 2 Infection by Directly Interacting with the Viral Proteins

open access: yes, 2019
Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is the etiological agent of porcine circovirus diseases and porcine circovirus-associated diseases (PCVDs/PCVADs). However, the pathogenesis of PCV2 is not fully understood.

Infection dynamics of porcine circovirus type 3 in longitudinally sampled pigs from four Spanish farms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Porcine circovirus type 3 (PCV-3) is a recently discovered virus in domestic pigs and wild boar. The virus has been described in pigs with different clinical/pathological presentations and healthy animals, but the dynamics of infection is currently ...

Genetic and Respiratory Pathogenic Comparison of Two PRRSV‐2 Isolates Classified as Lineage Korean A and B

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) continues to cause substantial economic losses worldwide, and certain lineages circulate in specific countries. Lineage Korean A (LKA), B (LKB), and C (LKC) have been reported exclusively in Korea. However, studies on LKA and LKB have been limited to strains isolated before 2015. In this study,

Development of Magnetic Particle–Based Chemiluminescence Immunoassays for Detecting PCV2 VLP‐ and Rep‐Specific Antibodies and Their Combined Use for Immune Evaluation and Replication‐Associated Exposure Assessment

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) remains a major swine pathogen, and interpretation of capsid protein (Cap)–based serology is challenging in vaccinated populations because vaccine‐induced Cap antibodies overlap with replication‐associated serological signals.

An investigation into the status of porcine circovirus in Australia

open access: yes, 2004
This thesis reports for the first time the detection of porcine circovirus virus (PCV) in the Australian pig herd. PCV DNA was detected in the tissues of pigs from several Australian states using a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay, the ...

Emergence of a Novel CRESS‐DNA Virus Associated with Swine Reproductive Failure in China

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The continuous emergence of circular Rep‐encoding single‐stranded (CRESS) DNA viruses across diverse hosts has been closely associated with the occurrence of severe diseases. Four circoviruses within the genus Circovirus have been identified in pigs, including porcine circovirus Type 1 (PCV1), PCV2, PCV3, PCV4, and PCV5.

Australian porcine circoviruses

open access: yes, 2006
Two types of porcine circovirus (PCV) exist, referred to as PCV1 and PCV2. PCV2 has been associated with disease syndromes in pigs, including that designated postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), which has been identified in all regions of ...
