Analysis of the large (L) protein gene of the procine rubulavirus LPMV: identification of possible functional domains

Virus Research, 1997
The complete nucleotide sequence of the porcine rubulavirus LPMV (La Piedad Michoacan virus) large (L) protein gene was determined and analysed. The L mRNA was found to span 6,786 nucleotides, containing one single large open reading frame (ORF), putatively encoding a polypeptide of 2,251 amino acids.

Uptake of Porcine Rubulavirus (LPMV) by PK-15 Cells

Archives of Medical Research, 2001
The porcine virus denominated La Piedad Michoacan Virus (LPMV) is a member of the family Paramyxoviridae and is the cause of a disease in pigs present only in Mexico. The disease is characterized by meningoencephalitis and respiratory distress in young pigs, epididymitis and orchitis in boars, and reproductive failure and abortion in sows. The ...

Secondary structure prediction of the hemagglutinin-neuraminidase from a porcine rubulavirus

Archives of Virology, 1998
The Hemagglutinin-Neuraminidase (HN) from 'La Piedad, Michoacan' porcine rubulavirus (LPMV) interacts specifically with NeuAc alpha 2,3 lactose residues on the target cell. In this work we report the secondary structure of this protein, determined with five different theoretical algorithms.

Purification and characterization of the Hemagglutinin-Neuraminidase of porcine rubulavirus LPMV

Glycoconjugate Journal, 1999
The Hemagglutinin-Neuraminidase (HN) from the LPMV strain of Porcine rubulavirus was purified from virions by ultracentrifugation in a continuous 20-60% sucrose gradient and by ion exchange chromatography. The HN is a glycoprotein of 66 kDa constituted by 50.5, 13.3 and 13.6% of non polar, uncharged polar, and charged polar amino acids, respectively ...

Purification of the Porcine rubulavirus attachment protein by liquid isoelectric focusing

Protein Expression and Purification, 2004
Porcine rubulavirus (PoRV) is an emerging virus responsible for meningoencephalitis, respiratory distress, and reproductive alterations in pigs. The hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) glycoprotein is the most exposed and antigenic of the virus proteins.

Neuraminidase activity of blue eye disease porcine rubulavirus: Specificity, affinity and inhibition studies

Research in Veterinary Science, 2017
Porcine rubulavirus (PorPV), also known as La Piedad Michoacan Virus (LPMV) causes encephalitis and reproductive failure in newborn and adult pigs, respectively. The hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) glycoprotein is the most exposed and antigenic of the virus proteins. HN plays central roles in PorPV infection; i.e., it recognizes sialic acid-containing

Cloning, expression and characterization of potential immunogenic recombinant hemagglutinin-neuraminidase protein of Porcine rubulavirus

Protein Expression and Purification, 2016
Blue eye disease caused by Porcine rubulavirus (PorPV) is an endemic viral infection of swine causing neurological and respiratory disease in piglets, and reproductive failure in sows and boars. The hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) glycoprotein of PorPV is the most abundant component in the viral envelope and the main target of the immune response in ...

Full-genome sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of four neurovirulent Mexican isolates of porcine rubulavirus

Archives of Virology, 2017
We report the complete genome sequences of four neurovirulent isolates of porcine rubulavirus (PorPV) from 2015 and one historical PorPV isolate from 1984 obtained by next-generation sequencing. A phylogenetic tree constructed using the individual sequences of the complete HN genes of the 2015 isolates and other historical sequences deposited in the ...

Efficacy of quantitative RT-PCR for detection of the nucleoprotein gene from different porcine rubulavirus strains

Archives of Virology, 2013
Blue-eye disease is an emergent viral swine infection caused by porcine rubulavirus (PoRV). We have developed a qRT-PCR method to detect and quantify expression of the nucleoprotein gene for different PoRV strains. The limit of detection for this assay was 10(2) copies of synthetic RNA.

Blue eye disease porcine rubulavirus (PoRv) infects pig neurons and glial cells using sialo-glycoprotein as receptor

The Veterinary Journal, 2007
Pig neural cells express glycoproteins with sialylated N-linked oligosaccharide chains (SNOC) which are used by the porcine rubulavirus (PoRv) as receptors. Pig neuronal or glial cell cultures were employed to investigate (a) whether PoRv infects such cells using a molecule expressing SNOC, and (b) the role of viral envelope glycoproteins in ...
