Processing of porous ceramics by ‘starch consolidation’
Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 1998Abstract A new consolidation method for forming porous ceramics was developed using starch as both consolidator/binder and pore former. Simple and complex-shaped components of porous alumina were shaped and demoulded in wet state. After drying, burn-out and sintering, materials with ultimate porosities between 23 and 70% were obtained.

Enhancing bioaccessibility of resveratrol by loading in natural porous starch microparticles
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2022Resveratrol (RSV) is a lipophilic polyphenol susceptible to photo- and thermal degradation, and strategies are to be studied to enable its distribution in food matrices, prevent its degradation during storage, and increase its bioaccessibility during digestion.

Preparation and properties of the succinic ester of porous starch
Carbohydrate Polymers, 2012Abstract Porous starch (PS) was prepared by replacing ice crystals in frozen starch gel with ethanol using a solvent exchange technique. It was then modified by succinic anhydride (SA) in a solvent/catalyst-free medium, and the obtained SA-modified PSs (SAPSs) were characterized. The degrees of substitution (DSs) of SA could be controlled by changing

Porous Ceramics Formed Using Starch Consolidation
Key Engineering Materials, 2001Porous alumina bodies have been prepared with between 15 and 45% porosity using rice, corn or potato starch as a combined consolidating agent and pore former. Rice starch produces the finest pores but agglomerates more easily and produces less robust green bodies. Porosity is primarily dependent upon starch content, but is also influenced by processing

Physicochemical properties of a novel chestnut porous starch nanoparticle
International Journal of Biological MacromoleculesA novel chestnut porous starch nanoparticle (PSNP) was successfully synthesized, combining the properties of starch nanoparticle (SNP) and porous starch. The SNP obtained through ultrasonic and acid hydrolysis, exhibited a smaller particle size (173.9 nm) and a higher specific surface area (SSA) compared to native starch.

Rational design of porous starch/hyaluronic acid composites for hemostasis
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2020Effective hemorrhage control is pivotal for decreasing the trauma death both in civilian and military but has proven to be dauntingly challenging, especially for solid viscera and artery trauma. Here we report the fabrication of a novel starch-based hemostat, sodium trimethaphosphate (STMP)-crosslinked starch/hyaluronic acid (HA) (ScSH) porous ...

Preparation and properties of granular cold-water-soluble porous starch
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2020In this work, granular cold-water soluble waxy corn starch (N-GCWS) and granular cold-water soluble porous waxy corn starch (P-GCWS) were prepared by waxy corn starch (WS) treated with alcohol-alkali. Starch morphologies, crystal structures, turbidity, cold water viscosity, freeze-thaw stability and oil absorption capacity of N-GCWS and P-GCWS starches

Porous Cordierite Synthesized Using Corn Starch
Advanced Materials Research, 2013Cordierite (2MgO.2Al2O3.5SiO2) is an advanced ceramic which is popular for its high melting temperature and high resistance to thermal, chemical and corrosion and also low dielectric constant. The use of various structure of cordierite especially porous structure became more popular where its properties can be tailored by controlling the open and ...
