On the chemical composition of the red crab Portunus pelagicus

Marine Biology, 1971
Data are presented on yield of meat and waste from whole red crabs Portunus pelagicus (Linnaeus). The chemical composition (protein, oil, moisture, and ash) of the meat and waste portions and the amount of protein and non-protein nitrogen in the meat together with the amount of sarcoplasmic, fibrillar, and stroma protein in the protein fraction have ...

The effect of size and sex on PCB and PAH concentrations in crab Portunus pelagicus

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2013
Polychlorinated biphenyl and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon concentrations in the hepatopancreas of blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) from the north Persian Gulf were measured. In addition, the relationships between crab size (carapace width) and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) levels in hepatopancreas ...

Dietary composition of the blue swimmer crab Portunus pelagicus L.

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 2000
The aim of this study was to determine the diets of Portunus pelagicus in the large Peel-Harvey and Leschenault estuaries in south-western Australia in order to ascertain whether the dietary composition of this crab changes with body size during two different moult stages and differs between the two estuaries.

[External morphological characteristics during the embryonic development of Portunus pelagicus].

open access: yesDong wu xue yan jiu = Zoological research, 2012
The embryonic development of Portunus pelagicus was studied under laboratory conditions at a water temperature of 25-26 Degrees Celsius, salinity of 30, and pH of 7.8-8.4. The embryogenesis of Portunus pelagicus was divided into six stages: cleavage, blastula, gastrula, nauplius, metanauplius, and protozoea.

Isolation and characterization of microsatellite loci in Portunus pelagicus (Crustacea: Portunidae)

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Notes, 2002
Seven dinucleotide and one tetranucleotide microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized, using routine protocols, from the blue swimmer crab, Portunus pelagicus.

Thermal stress induced hyperglycemia in the blue swimmer crab, Portunus pelagicus

Journal of Thermal Biology, 2021
Hyperglycemia is a stress responsible mechanism induced in crustaceans through the secretion of Crustacean Hyperglycemic Hormone (CHH). The effect of thermal shock on the hemolymph CHH levels was studied in P. pelagicus. Crabs were exposed to varying temperatures for 3 h and were then transferred to ambient temperature (28 °C). A higher CHH level of 47.
