Abstract The elastic post-torsional-buckling behaviour of a simply supported cruciform column has been analysed, and its strength has been approximated by assuming that it fails when it first yields due to the maximum normal stress induced by the axial compression. Post-Buckling Analysis of Guyed Towers

The post-buckling behavior of short towers, supported by a single set of guy wires is investigated. Using the principle of stationary potential energy, a set of non-linear algebraic equations are obtained for both fixed and hinged-base towers. The equations are solved numerically for several actual systems.

Post-Buckling Analysis of Cylindrical Shells

A method is presented for the calculation of the critical load and post-buckling displacements of elastic structures, and is demonstrated on circular cylindrical shells. The critical load is found by successive extrapolations of the load with the aid of the tangent stiffness matrix determinant.
