Considerations for determining the time course of post-activation potentiation

Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism, 2015
We sought to determine the efficacy of using a continuous time course trial to assess the temporal profile of post-activation potentiation and to determine the time course of potentiation of discrete jump squat kinetic and kinematic variables. Eight physically trained men performed jump squats before and 4, 8, and 12 min after a 5-repetition maximum ...

Post-activation potentiation in the neocortex. III. Kindling-induced potentiation in the chronic preparation

Brain Research, 1995
Previous experiments have shown the neocortex to be very resistant to the induction of long-term potentiation in chronic preparations. We show here that kindling-induced potentiation effects can be reliably produced in the neocortex of awake, freely moving rats. These effects develop rather slowly.

Relation of defibrillatory potential minima to post-defibrillatory activation

Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 1988
Management of patients with malignant arrhythmias occurring outside the hospital and the development of clinically applicable systems for internal defibrillation have stimulated interest in the factors influencing cardiac defibrillation. Using a directly coupled (DC) electrode and amplification scheme, the authors have developed a system capable of ...

Timing Is Everything: Post-Activation Potentiation in Jumping

Journal of Coaching Education, 2013
The National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) has developed National Standards for Sport Coaches (NSSC) with Standard 12 focusing on designing programs of training, conditioning, and recovery that properly utilizes exercise physiology and biomechanical principles.

The postnatal development of post-activation potentiation in the rat neocortex

Developmental Brain Research, 1983
The postnatal development of short-term potentiation (STP) and long-term potentiation (LTP) of the transcallosal response (TCR) was examined in anesthetized rats, aged 7 days (PN7) to adult (greater than or equal to PN180). Stimulation of callosal fibers produced a biphasic, positive-negative TCR recorded at the surface of the anterior neocortex in all

Tissue plasminogen activator is required for striatal post-ischemic synaptic potentiation

Neuroreport, 2002
Recent experimental observations indicate that tPA plays a key role in the development of neuronal damage that follows cerebral ischemia and excitotoxicity. In an attempt to clarify how tPA favors ischemia-induced neuronal damage, we performed in vitro electrophysiological experiments in striatal slices by using mice selectively lacking this serine ...

Post-activation potentiation in the neocortex of awake freely moving rats

Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews, 1998
The search for the cellular processes that underlie information storage within neuronal systems lead to the development of two models of post-activation potentiation, long-term potentiation (LTP) and kindling. Both models give rise to a long-lasting increase in synaptic strength and altered unit discharge patterns.

Throwing and catching movements exhibit post-activation potentiation effects following fatigue

Sports Biomechanics, 2011
Many sport and exercise activities require powerful movements of the upper body. Despite their importance, there is a paucity of research examining stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) activities occurring in the upper limbs. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of fatigue on throwing performance (height of throw) and biomechanical factors of ...
