Demonstration of an All‐Optical AND Gate Mediated by Photochromic Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A logic AND gate that runs on photons is demonstrated. It relies on two spatially separated photochromic molecules that work in tandem. Abstract The realization of a photonic logic AND gate, i.e. a logic AND gate that runs on photons rather than electrons, and where all steps are controlled by light, is demonstrated. In a proof‐of‐principle experiment,

Temporal and Spatial Impact of Human Cadaver Decomposition on Soil Bacterial and Arthropod Community Structure and Function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
As vertebrate carrion decomposes, there is a release of nutrient-rich fluids into theunderlying soil, which can impact associated biological community structure andfunction. How these changes alter soil biogeochemical cycles is relatively unknown and may

Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Development of Sarcophaga princeps Wiedemann (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) Under Constant Temperature and Its Implication in Forensic Entomology

open access: yesInsects
Sarcophagidae are often the first sarcosaprophagous insects to colonize corpses in specialized cases such as indoor discoveries and burials, making them forensically crucial for estimating the minimum postmortem interval (PMImin). Among these, Sarcophaga

Unraveling the Mg Loss Mechanism and Degradation Kinetics in Thermoelectric n‐Type Mg2Si‐Mg2Sn Solid Solutions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mg‐based thermoelectrics are among the most promising candidates for power generation applications but their performance is compromised by Mg loss at device operation temperatures due to the higher chemical potential of Mg (μMg${\mu}_{\mathrm{Mg}}$) inside the material compared to the environment.

A postmortem interval estimation by cranioencephalic thermometry at a single discrete decrease in ambient temperature

open access: yesНаука и инновации в медицине
Aim – to develop an estimation method and a computer program for determining the postmortem interval (PMI) by cranioencephalic temperature (CT) of a corpse under conditions of cooling with a single discrete decrease in ambient temperature.

Alkali Ion‐Incorporated HfO2 Dielectrics for Reconfigurable Neuromorphic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents an indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) transistor with an alkali cation‐integrated hafnium dioxide (HfO2) dielectric exhibiting synaptic behavior via ion retention. The solution‐based film fabrication strategy overcomes the limitations of atomic layer deposition (ALD) and precursor coating, enabling the control of synaptic retention ...

Coherent Control of Nitrogen Nuclear Spins via the VB−${\rm V}_B^-$‐Center in Hexagonal Boron Nitride

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates coherent control of 15N nuclear spins coupled to VB−${\text{V}}_{\text{B}}^{-}$ centers in isotope‐enriched hexagonal boron nitride. Selective addressing via spin‐state mixing enables Rabi driving, quantum gates, and coherence times exceeding 10 μs$\umu{\rm s}$.

Postmortem Interval Influences α-Synuclein Expression in Parkinson Disease Brain

open access: yesParkinson's Disease, 2012
Duplications and triplications of the α-synuclein (SNCA) gene increase risk for PD, suggesting increased expression levels of the gene to be associated with increased PD risk.
