Astrocyte Senescence Impairs Synaptogenesis due to Thrombospondin‐1 Loss

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2026.
Senescent hippocampal astrocytes lose TSP secretion, impairing excitatory synaptogenesis via the α2δ‐1 pathway. Restoring TSP‐1 rescues synaptic formation, revealing the contribution of astrocyte senescence to age‐related hippocampal synaptic decline.

Myeloid PD‐1 Regulates Astrocyte Development and Leads to Active Behaviours

open access: yesCell Proliferation, Volume 59, Issue 2, February 2026.
During early neurodevelopment, PD‐1 ablation in myeloid cells influences myeloid proliferation/differentiation and causes sustained astrocyte overproliferation. PD‐1f/f; LysM‐Cre mice showed elevated astrocyte gene expression and behavioural changes.

Ethanol Alters DNMT1/3a/3b Expression Profile, Promotes Persistent DNA Hypomethylation in Human Brain Endothelial Cells and Impairs Late Cortical Angiogenesis

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 170, Issue 2, February 2026.
Ethanol exposure alters brain endothelial cell function and blood–brain barrier integrity. In human brain microcapillary endothelial cells (HBMEC) and mouse brain endothelial cells (MBEC) from a prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) model, ethanol increased DNA methyltransferas‐1 (DNMT1) activity and reduced DNA methylation, affecting DNMT3a/3b, methyl‐CpG ...

Postnatal hippocampal neurogenesis in schizophrenia and during adolescence

open access: yes, 2014
Schizophrenia may result from aberrations in maturational neurodevelopmental processes. While many genetic and environmental factors increase the risk of schizophrenia, it is currently unclear how these factors interact across the course of adolescent development to result in the emergence of the illness during this period.
