Potato Mop-top Virus in Infected Cells [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1972
The particles of potato mop-top virus (PMTV) resemble those of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), and the two viruses are slightly related serologically. However, buffer extracts of tobacco leaves infected with PMTV contain very few virus particles and no evidence has been obtained of free virus RNA in the infected leaves.

Sensitivity of Potato Cultivars to Potato mop-top virus-Induced Tuber Necrosis [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Disease, 2015
Potato (Solanum tuberosum) cultivars representing four market classes were assessed for sensitivity to Potato mop-top virus (PMTV)-induced tuber necrosis in three separate trials in a field in North Dakota known to be infested with PMTV. Reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction confirmed the presence of PMTV in randomly selected samples ...

First Report of Potato mop-top virus on Potato in Poland

open access: yesPlant Disease, 2010
Potato mop-top virus (PMTV) is a serious pathogen occurring in Northern Europe, North and South America, and Asia that significantly reduces potato (Solanum tuberosum) production. PMTV is transmitted by Spongospora subterranea, the casual agent of potato powdery scab, and causes the characteristic brown arcs and circles (spraing symptoms) in potato ...

Some Properties of Potato Mop-Top Virus and its Serological Relationship to Tobacco Mosaic Virus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1972
Summary Potato mop-top (PMTV) and tobacco mosaic (TMV) viruses are serologically related, but only slightly. An antiserum with a titre of 1600 against TMV had a titre of only 5 against PMTV. Similarly, an antiserum with a titre of 2048 against PMTV had a titre of only 8 against TMV; when diluted in saline this antiserum did not precipitate TMV, but did

First Report of Potato mop-top virus on Potatoes in Washington State

open access: yesPlant Disease, 2011
In April of 2011, approximately 10% of the tubers of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) cv. Alturas, grown in central Washington State and collected from a commercial potato storage facility, were observed to have internal brown spots and arcs typical of infection by either Tobacco rattle virus (TRV) or Potato mop-top virus (PMTV).

Distribution and diversity of Potato mop-top virus in Sweden [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
During the last decades, spraing disease caused by Potato mop-top virus (PMTV) has become a severe problem in the potato production throughout the Nordic countries. In this thesis, it was shown that PMTV is widely distributed throughout Sweden, Norway and Denmark, and has now become prevalent in the potato-production areas within these countries.

POLYCLONAL ANTIBODIES TO DETECT THE CP-RT PROTEIN OF Potato Mop-Top VIRUS ANTICUERPOS POLICLONALES PARA LA DETECCIÓN DE LA PROTEÍNA CP-RT DEL Potato Mop-Top VIRUS [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Facultad Nacional de Agronomía Medellín, 2012
. Potato mop-top virus (PMTV) causes an important re-emerging disease in potato crops in Colombia due to the increased incidence of its protozoan vector Spongospora subterranea f.sp. subterranea (Sss), the causing agent of Powdery scab disease.

Unusual Long-Distance Movement Strategies of Potato mop-top virus RNAs in Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2009
The Potato mop-top virus (PMTV) genome encodes replicase, movement, and capsid proteins on three different RNA species that are encapsidated within tubular rod-shaped particles. Previously, we showed that the protein produced on translational readthrough

A naturally occurring deleted form of RNA 2 of Potato mop-top virus

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1999
A spontaneous deletion in RNA 2 of Potato mop-top virus (PMTV) was identified by RT–PCR. The deletion occurred reproducibly during manual passage of two isolates of PMTV and during fungal inoculation of plants with viruliferous soil. The borders of the deletion were conserved in all instances and sequence analyses showed that a contiguous segment of ...
