Knockout of SlDCL2b attenuates the resistance of tomato to potato spindle tuber viroid infection. [PDF]

open access: goldMol Plant Pathol
RNA interference, or RNA silencing, is an important defence mechanism against viroid infection in plants. Plants encode multiple DICER‐LIKE (DCL) proteins that are key components of the RNA silencing pathway.

Potato spindle tuber viroid infection triggers degradation of chloride channel protein CLC-b-like and Ribosomal protein S3a-like mRNAs in tomato plants [PDF]

open access: goldScientific Reports, 2017
It is well established that viroid derived small RNA (vd-sRNA) induces RNA silencing of endogenous mRNA. However, it remains not clear how exactly viroid infections can lead to severe symptom induction given the fact that fewer vd-sRNAs binding the ...

DNA Ligase I Circularises Potato Spindle Tuber Viroid RNA in a Biomolecular Condensate. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Plant Pathol
Viroids are single‐stranded circular noncoding RNAs that mainly infect crops. Upon infection, nuclear‐replicating viroids engage host DNA‐dependent RNA polymerase II for RNA‐templated transcription, which is facilitated by a host protein TFIIIA‐7ZF.

Tobacco mosaic virus movement protein complements a Potato spindle tuber viroid RNA mutant impaired for mesophyll entry but not mutants unable to enter the phloem. [PDF]

open access: goldPLoS Pathog, 2022
Tobacco mosaic virus movement protein (TMV MP) is essential for virus spread between cells. To accomplish its task, TMV MP binds viral RNA, interacts with components of the cytoskeleton, and increases the size exclusion limit (SEL) of plasmodesmata ...

Degradome Analysis of Tomato and Nicotiana benthamiana Plants Infected with Potato Spindle Tuber Viroid. [PDF]

open access: goldInt J Mol Sci, 2021
Viroids are infectious non-coding RNAs that infect plants. During infection, viroid RNAs are targeted by Dicer-like proteins, generating viroid-derived small RNAs (vd-sRNAs) that can guide the sequence specific cleavage of cognate host mRNAs via an RNA ...

Dissecting the role of bHLH transcription factors in the potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd)-tomato pathosystem using network approaches. [PDF]

open access: goldPLoS One
Viroids, minimalist plant pathogens, pose significant threats to crops by causing severe diseases. Transcriptome profiling technologies have significantly advanced the analysis of viroid-infected host plants, providing critical insights into gene ...

Transcriptome Analysis Reveals Dynamic Cultivar-Dependent Patterns of Gene Expression in Potato Spindle Tuber Viroid-Infected Pepper. [PDF]

open access: goldPlants (Basel), 2021
Potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) infects various plants. PSTVd pathogenesis is associated with interference with the cellular metabolism and defense signaling pathways via direct interaction with host factors or via the transcriptional or post ...

Time-Course Microarray Analysis Reveals Differences between Transcriptional Changes in Tomato Leaves Triggered by Mild and Severe Variants of Potato Spindle Tuber Viroid [PDF]

open access: yesViruses, 2018
Viroids are small non-capsidated non-coding RNA replicons that utilize host factors for efficient propagation and spread through the entire plant. They can incite specific disease symptoms in susceptible plants.

Silencing of transcription factor encoding gene StTCP23 by small RNAs derived from the virulence modulating region of potato spindle tuber viroid is associated with symptom development in potato. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2019
Viroids are small, non-protein-coding RNAs which can induce disease symptoms in a variety of plant species. Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the natural host of Potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) where infection results in stunting, distortion of leaves

Eradication and diversity of potato spindle tuber viroid in dahlia in Japan. [PDF]

open access: greenVirusDisease
Abstract The potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) was discovered in 2009 in Japanese dahlia (Dahlia sp.). Their occurrence areas were distributed across 24 prefectures based on an exhaustive survey using RT-PCR and RT-qPCR. All dahlia plant varieties in which PSTVd was detected and their adjacent plants were removed from the field.
