Harnessing plant susceptibility genes into strategies for enhanced disease resistance
Integrated model of S gene modules in plant pathogen interactions. This model summarises representative host susceptibility modules that can be exploited by bacterial, fungal and viral pathogens. In the bacterial infection module, Xanthomonas transcription activator‐like effectors activate OsSWEET14 through effector‐binding elements in its promoter ...

Understanding potato seed degeneration, Ecuador. Project profile.
The food security of Andean small-scale potato farmers is dependent on the quality of their planting materials. Potatoes are susceptible to pathogen and pest accumulation in seed tubers over successive cycles of vegetative propagation, leading to seed ...

Interplanetary frontiers: terraforming from an invasion science perspective
The pursuit of a multi‐planetary existence represents one of humanity's greatest frontiers. If applied justly, it offers an opportunity to extend its civilization's lifespan amid escalating sustainability crises on Earth. One approach increasingly gaining traction is terraforming, a hitherto theoretical ecological and evolutionary experiment revolving ...

On the Biochemical Properties of Tomato and Potato Viruses

Plants back: Re‐envisioning botanical garden collections management for indigenous crops
Botanical gardens and other ex situ collections play a key role in preventing plant extinctions, yet the needs of Indigenous crop cultivars are not being met by conventional botanical collections management practices. Inspired by Indigenous land care restoration movements centering plant–human–society relationships, we propose a path toward reciprocal ...

RNA degradomics revealed dsProsβ1‐derived siRNA‐mediated mRNA cleavage events, mainly at uracil‐guanine and adenine‐adenine pairs. Proteasome inhibition via dsProsβ1 increased mitochondrial and cytoskeletal proteins while reducing translation‐related and mRNA‐binding proteins.
