Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

Accruals, Investment and Errors-in-Variables [PDF]
We formulate well-known discretionary accruals models in an investment setting. Given that accruals basically consist of short-term investment, we introduce, (i) cash-flows, as a proxy for financial constraints and other financial markets imperfections ...

Identification and reduction of pre-analytical errors in clinical chemistry through expert advice
Background: Diagnostics in Clinical chemistry laboratory is a pivotal part of clinical decision-making but is not exempt from ‘human errors’. Scientific innovations such as automation and electronic order test requesting have contributed to ...

Pre-Analytical Laboratory Errors and Their Impact on Diagnostic Accuracy
Pre-analytical laboratory errors refer to the mistakes that occur before the actual analysis of biological specimens, significantly impacting the overall accuracy of diagnostic testing. These errors can arise from various sources, including patient misidentification, improper collection techniques, inadequate specimen handling, and delays in ...

Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

How to conduct External Quality Assessment Schemes for the pre-analytical phase?
In laboratory medicine, several studies have described the most frequent errors in the different phases of the total testing process, and a large proportion of these errors occur in the pre-analytical phase.
