YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Disk-locking Regulates Stellar Rotation in Young Clusters: Insights from NGC 2264

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Many young clusters possess extended main sequences, a phenomenon commonly ascribed to stellar rotation. However, the mechanism behind their very wide stellar rotation distributions remains unclear.

Modeling the origin of the rotation of massive stars

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. We explore the origins behind the rotation rates of massive stars, accounting for the fact that in contrast to their low-mass siblings, most massive stars do not have detectable magnetic fields.

Observation and discussion of some pre-main sequence stars

open access: yes, 1999
Using the 2.16-m telescope of Beijing Observatory, H-alpha spectrum observations were made towards 28 pre-main sequence stars. In this paper we report the results for 10 of the stars for which P Cygni or anti P Cygni H-alpha profiles and some other ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Gaia21bja: Pre-main-sequence Star with Quasiperiodic Bursts

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Gaia21bja is a Gaia alerted young stellar object (YSO) that exhibits at least seven quasiperiodic brightenings over a 20 yr long light curve with durations of 1.5–2 yr and amplitudes up to ∼1.7 mag in the Gaia G band.

Magnetic Activity of Pre-main Sequence Stars [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 2004
I review here recent advances in our understanding of magnetic activity in pre-main sequence (PMS) protostars and T Tauri stars. Results are based on recent imaging, spectroscopic and temporal studies of nearby star forming regions from the Chandra X — ray Observatory and XMM — Newton, including a first look at an ultradeep Chandra exposure of the ...

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Gaia23bab: A New EXor

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
On 2023 March 6, the Gaia telescope alerted a 2 mag burst from Gaia23bab, a young stellar object in the Galactic plane. We observed Gaia23bab with the Large Binocular Telescope obtaining optical and near-infrared spectra close in time to the peak of the ...

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...
