EFI Prechamber Torch Ignition of Lean Mixtures
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1975<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper describes the development of a prechamber-type torch ignition system on a modified 4-cyl, 140 in3 engine. The prechamber consists of a blind cavity coupled to the main chamber with an orifice.

Prechamber for Lean Burn for Low NOx
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1995<div class="htmlview paragraph">To ignite very lean natural gas mixture it is necessary to use prechambers. The extension of lean limit of a combustion system is given by citing an example. The orifice diameter from the prechamber to the main chamber has a strong effect. The magnitude of the effect for one particular example is shown.

An Experimental and Computational Investigation of the Flow in Diesel Prechambers
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1982<div class="htmlview paragraph">High-speed schlieren photography was employed to study air-fuel mixing and combustion in several two-dimensional prechambers that represented a 1980 GM-oldsmobile diesel prechamber and modifications thereof. The experiments were performed in a Rapid Compression Machine.

Volume 1: Large Bore Engines; Fuels; Advanced Combustion, 2018
Turbocharged gas engines for combined heat and power units are optimized to increase efficiency while observing and maintaining legitimate exhaust gas emissions. In order to do so, the charge motion is raised. This study investigates the influence of passive prechamber spark plugs in high turbulent combustion chambers. The subjects of investigation are

A Quasidimensional Model of SI Natural Gas Engines with Prechamber
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1997<div class="htmlview paragraph">Spark ignition natural gas engines with prechamber, having high thermal efficiency and low exhaust emissions, have been developed due to energy resources and air pollution problems in recent ten years. A lot of significant results on experimental have been given, but the reports on combustion model were few seen so

A Numerical Methodology for the Design of Active Prechambers in Spark-Ignition Engines
Combustion Science and Technology, 2023Active prechamber spark-ignition engines are a feasible and effective solution in reducing fuel consumption and pollutant emissions for internal combustion engines. However, reliable and low-cost numerical approaches need to be developed to support and speed-up their industrial design, considering their geometric complexity and the involved multiple ...

Investigation of a Lean-Burn Piston Engine with Catalytic Prechamber
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1996<div class="htmlview paragraph">Lean burning in piston engines gives opportunity to achieve important enviromental and fuel economy objectives. Unfortunately, lean mixtures are not readily ignited and are characterized by poor flame propagation. Thus, techniques which enhance ignition, flame formation and its propagation must be applied, if lean ...

Dual-Fueling of a Prechamber Diesel Engine With Natural Gas
Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 1985The feasibility of dual-fuel operation with natural gas in a prechamber diesel engine was studied with special emphasis on fuel consumption and cylinder pressure development. The effects of air restriction, pilot diesel flow rate, and injection timing were also investigated.

Analysis of a Prechamber Ignited HPDI Gas Combustion Concept
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2020<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">High-pressure direct injection (HPDI) of natural gas into the combustion chamber enables a non-premixed combustion regime known from diesel engines. Since knocking combustion cannot occur with this combustion process, an increase in the compression ratio and thus efficiency is ...
