Emissions and Economy Potential of Prechamber Stratified Charge Engines
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1979<div class="htmlview paragraph">In order to meet stringent government emissions standards without penalizing the fuel economy of gasoline engine cars, a number of alternative engine concepts have been investigated. This paper describes a research investigation and parallel development activity on prechamber stratified charge engines.

An Evaluation of the Performance and Emissions of a CFR Engine Equipped with a Prechamber
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1973<div class="htmlview paragraph">An experimental study of a naturally aspirated, spark-ignited prechamber mounted in a CFR engine demonstrated that this system provides a marked improvement in lean-mixture combustion both before and after engine warm-up.

Prechamber for Lean Burn for Low NOx for Natural Gas
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1995<div class="htmlview paragraph">To ignite very lean natural gas mixture it is necessary to use prechambers. The extension of lean limit of a combustion system is given by citing an example. The orifice diameter from the prechamber to the main chamber has a strong effect. The magnitude of the effect for one particular example is shown.

Effects of a Prechamber on NOx Formation Process in the SI Engine
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1979<div class="htmlview paragraph">The NOx emission of the TOYOTA LEAN BURN ENGINE is lower than that of a conventional engine due to the presence of a prechamber called a “Turbulence Generating Pot”.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">The mechanism of this NOx reduction was analyzed experimentally and theoretically.</div> < ...

A Correlation for Air Velocities in Cylindrical Prechambers of Diesel Engines
Journal of Engineering for Power, 1981Theoretical analysis and measurements of air velocities in cylindrical prechambers of the indirect injection type Diesel engine are reported. Comparisons are made between the theoretical analysis and the measurements for two cylindrical prechambers tested in the present study and the results of previous investigators [4–6], A correlation is derived-to ...

A Multifuel Combustion System for High Performance Prechamber Diesels
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1964<div class="htmlview paragraph">Two high specific output diesel engines designed for the Military -- the LVDS-1100 and LDS-750 engines, which are of V-8 and 5-cyl in-line configuration, respectively -- were developed by Caterpillar Tractor Co. under contract with U.S.

Three Dimensional Modelling of Combustion in a Prechamber Diesel Engine
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1989<div class="htmlview paragraph">Diesel engines remain very attractive for automotive applications especially for urban driving, owing to a lower fuel consumption when compared to spark-ignition engines. Because they allow us to achieve a better compromise between efficiency, noise and emissions, most of the european diesel passenger cars are ...

PR457-23203-R01 Investigation of Supersonic Prechamber Jets
Lean-burning, large-bore two-stroke natural gas engines have long been essential elements of the North American natural gas pipeline system and will continue to play a crucial role in natural gas transportation for the foreseeable future. However, with increasing pressure to reduce emissions, improving the performance of this aging engine fleet has ...Kyle Beurlot, Timothy Jacobs
