The prediction of precipitation strengthening in microalloyed steels

open access: yesMetallurgical Transactions A, 1988
The effectiveness of interphase precipitation strengthening in microalloyed steels depends on the temperature dependence of the solubility of the precipitation phase in austenite and on the temperature utilized in soaking. Using an approximate method of calculating the solubility of microalloying elements in the presence of both carbon and nitrogen, a ...

Strengthening aerobic granule by salt precipitation

Bioresource Technology, 2016
Structural stability of aerobic granules is generally poor during long-term operation. This study precipitated seven salts inside aerobic granules using supersaturated solutions of (NH4)3PO4, CaCO3, CaSO4, MgCO3, Mg3(PO4)2, Ca3(PO4)2 or SiO2 to enhance their structural stability.

Precipitate Strengthening of Nanostructured Aluminium Alloy

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2012
Grain boundaries and precipitates are the major microstructural features influencing the mechanical properties of metals and alloys. Refinement of the grain size to the nanometre scale brings about a significant increase in the mechanical strength of the materials because of the increased number of grain boundaries which act as obstacles to sliding ...

A Model for Predicting the Precipitation Strengthening Response of Precipitation Hardened Alloys Strengthened by Ordered Precipitates

Recent Advances in Solids/Structures and Application of Metallic Materials, 1997
Abstract A model was developed for predicting the precipitation hardening response of a particle strengthened alloy determined from the microstructure, composition, and heat treatment. The precipitates in the microstructure which impede dislocation motion and control the precipitation strengthening response as a function of the aging ...

Mechanical behavior and strengthening mechanisms in ultrafine grain precipitation-strengthened aluminum alloy

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2014
To provide insight into the relationships between precipitation phenomena, grain size and mechanical behavior in a complex precipitation- strengthened alloy system, Al 7075 alloy, a commonly used aluminum alloy, was selected as a model system in the ...
