Effect of Zr Additions on Thermal Stability of Al-Cu Precipitates in As-Cast and Cold Worked Samples

open access: yesMetals, 2018
While Zr is frequently added to Al alloys to control grain size with the formation of large (>1 μm) primary precipitates, little research has been conducted on the effect of nanoscale Al3Zr precipitates on Al alloys. By comparing the precipitation and

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Influence of Vanadium on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Medium-Carbon Steels for Wheels

open access: yesMetals, 2018
Steels used for high-speed train wheels require a combination of high strength, toughness, and wear resistance. In 0.54% C-0.9% Si wheel steel, the addition of 0.075 or 0.12 wt % V can refine grains and increase the ferrite content and toughness ...

Ultra-high work hardening mediated by three-level precipitation in a Ni2CoCr0.5Si0.3Al0.2Ti0.2 medium entropy alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
The three levels of precipitation with the primary Ni16Ti6Si7 intermetallic, the secondary large-sized L12 phase and the tertiary diffused distributed nanoscale L12 particles is achieved in an aged Ni2CoCr0.5Si0.3Al0.2Ti0.2 medium entropy alloy (MEA ...

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Interfacial gradient M7C3 carbides precipitation behavior and strengthening mechanisms of stainless steel/carbon steel clad plates

open access: yes, 2022
The mechanical incompatibilities between ferrite and martensite at the cladding interface of stainless steel (SS)/carbon steel (CS) clad plates can result in stress concentration and interface cracks.

Enhancing Strength and Electrical Conductivity in Al–Zr–Sc Conductor Alloys Through Sn and Sr Microalloying and Two‐Step Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Trace additions of Sn and Sr combined with a two‐step aging treatment are shown to enhance the microstructure and performance of Al–Zr–Sc conductor alloys. Strength and electrical conductivity increase concurrently through accelerated precipitation of fine Al3(Sc, Zr) precipitates and improved dislocation resistance, offering a cost‐effective pathway ...
