Preclinical pharmacokinetics of statins

Methods and Findings in Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology, 2002
This review summarizes the pharmacokinetic properties of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (or statins) reported in animals. Lovastatin and simvastatin are administered as lactone prodrugs in contrast to other statins, which are generally formulated in the pharmacological active hydroxy acid form.

Preclinical studies of glimepiride

Drugs of Today, 1998
The treatment of NIDDM is advancing on a number of fronts, ranging from the understanding of the mechanisms of action of existing agents to the development of new drugs. Glimepiride, the most recently U.S. approved sulfonylurea, is evaluated for its pancreatic and extrapancreatic activities in addition to safety, when compared with glibenclamide in ...

Preclinical characteristics of gemcitabine

Anti-Cancer Drugs, 1995
Gemcitabine (2',2'-difluorodeoxycytidine, dFdC) is a nucleoside analogue of deoxycytidine in which two fluorine atoms have been inserted into the deoxyribofuranosyl ring. Once inside the cell gemcitabine is rapidly phosphorylated by deoxycytidine kinase, the rate-limiting enzyme for the formation of the active metabolites gemcitabine diphosphate ...

Preclinical teachers and preclinical students

Medical Education, 1980
Summary A survey in 1974 in Manchester University medical school of the preclinical teachers showed that they thought that the motives of students in studying medicine were not what they should have been. Medically qualified and non‐medically qualified teachers agreed about the importance of nine suggested motives, but there were ...
