The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Time Delay Compensation and Stability Analysis of Networked Predictive Control Systems Based on Hammerstein Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A novel approach is proposed for a networked control system with random delays containing a nonlinear process based on a Hammerstein model. The method uses a time delay two step generalized predictive control (TDTSGPC), which consists of two parts, one ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Model predictive control of a hybrid autonomous underwater vehicle with experimental verification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this work model predictive control is used to provide transit and hover capabilities for an autonomous underwater vehicle where the description of the system dynamics used include terms measured experimentally.

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Economic Model Predictive Control with Zone Tracking

open access: yesMathematics, 2018
In this work, we propose a framework for economic model predictive control (EMPC) with zone tracking. A zone tracking stage cost is incorporated into the existing EMPC framework to form a multi-objective optimization problem.

Predictive Control Barrier Functions: Bridging model predictive control and control barrier functions

open access: yes2025 European Control Conference (ECC)
In this paper, we establish a connection between model predictive control (MPC) techniques and Control Barrier Functions (CBFs). Recognizing the similarity between CBFs and Control Lyapunov Functions (CLFs), we propose a MPC formulation that ensures invariance and safety without relying on explicit stability conditions.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Practical application of active noise control in a duct using predictive control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This paper presents a practical application of Active Noise Control (ANC) using the Generalised Predictive Control (GPC) algorithm. The main objective of this application was to reduce significantly the noise level in a duct using this technique.

On suboptimal control design for hybrid automata using predictive control techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper we propose an on-line design technique for the target control problem, when the system is modelled by hybrid automata. First, we compute off-line the shortest path, which has the minimum discrete cost, from an initial state to the given ...
