Failure of prediction of liver function test abnormalities with the urine urobilinogen and urine bilirubin assays.

open access: yesArchives of pathology & laboratory medicine, 1989
A prospective observational study of 229 cases was conducted in a busy ambulatory care setting to evaluate the sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, and accuracy of spot urine urobilinogen and urine bilirubin assays as screening tests for serum liver function test (LFT) abnormalities. Both urine tests exhibited remarkably similar characteristics

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Engineering Human 3D Cardiac Tissues for Predictive Functional Drug Screening

open access: yesPharmaceutics
Background/Objectives: Cardiotoxicity remains a leading cause of drug withdrawal. Conventional preclinical models, such as two-dimensional (2D) cell cultures and animal studies, often fail to accurately predict human cardiac responses.

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Cancer‐associated mutations in endometriosis reframe a benign disease through molecular oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review aims to comprehensively analyse cancer‐associated somatic mutations (CAMs) present in endometriotic lesions, emphasizing their biological roles, spatial distribution and implications for translational applications in medicine. By contextualizing a benign state within a genomic framework, this analysis seeks to establish its value as a ...

A novel long non-coding RNA SLNCR1 promotes proliferation, migration, and invasion of melanoma via transcriptionally regulating SOX5

open access: yesCell Death Discovery
Steroid receptor RNA activator (SRA)-like non-coding RNA (SLNCR1) has been implicated in various tumorigenic processes, but the precise regulatory role in melanoma progression remains uncertain.

Multi-omics characterization of RNA modification enzymes identifies NAT10 as a functionally validated prognostic biomarker in hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundRNA modification enzymes (RMEs) are key post-transcriptional regulators that impact RNA stability, translation, and splicing. Dysregulation of RMEs is closely associated with tumor initiation and progression.

Preoperative circulating tumor cells integrated with imaging analysis for prognostic evaluation in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood before surgery may help predict outcomes in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Here, we show when combined with tumor size and lymph node involvement from routine imaging, CTC status identifies high‐risk patients with poorer survival—offering a simple, minimally invasive tool ...
