One-dimensional physical reference models for the upper mantle and transition zone: combining seismic and mineral physics constraints

open access: yes
One-dimensional seismic reference models are known to be a nonunique solution to global seismic data, hampering an interpretation in terms of physical structure. Here we test the compatibility of the simplest hypothesis of a mantle convecting as a whole,

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Blood‐based proteomic profiling reveals context‐dependent changes in BCL2‐associated signaling during taxane therapy in breast cancer patients

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Patient-specific phantoms versus reference phantoms: a preliminary comparison on organs dose distribution

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Radiation Sciences, 2018
Discrepancies between ICRP phantoms and real patients lead to disparities on patient-dose estimations. This paper aims to compare distribution of dose in organs of male/female individualized-phantoms and ICRP reference phantoms.

To Refer or Not to Refer, That Is the (Preliminary) Question: Exploring Factors Which Influence the Participation of National Judges in the Preliminary Ruling Procedure

open access: yesCroatian Yearbook of European Law & Policy, 2020
This paper explores factors that either motivate or constrain national judges’ participation in the preliminary ruling procedure. By incorporating insights and evidence from American judicial politics literature and drawing from three models of judicial decision making: the attitudinal model, the team model, and the resource management model, it places

Preliminary reference procedure within the scope of European judicial system

open access: yes, 2007
The thesis deals with the preliminary reference procedure. There is outlined not only the characteristic of this procedure or its evolution, but also the interpretation of the term "court or tribunal of a Member State" or the Exceptions to the Duty to ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

The Change in the Approach of the Court of Justice of the European Union in the Context of Market Freedoms and Internal Situations

open access: yesJournal of Innovations and Sustainability, 2018
In its jurisprudence the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) has changed its approach towards the purely internal situation rule applicable in the context of the market freedoms. From the 1990s onwards the Court has showed a greater leniency in
