Tongue Pressure Changes Before, During and After Crib Appliance Therapy

open access: yes, 2010
Objective: To describe tongue pressure changes before, during, and after crib appliance therapy in mixed dentition open bite cases. Materials and Methods: A crib appliance was applied to each of the 13 patients in the study group.

Flow simulation of the effects of pressure angle to lobe pump rotor meshing characteristics

open access: yes, 2013
Lobe pump rotor profiles' radius of base circle, addendum circle and root circle are closely connected with pressure angle. The change of pressure angle has some effect on lobe pump performance. This paper focuses on two-dimensional profile lobe pump and

Ultrafast Processing of Hierarchical Nanotexture for a Transparent Superamphiphobic Coating with Extremely Low Roll‐Off Angle and High Impalement Pressure

open access: yesAdvances in Materials, 2018
Low roll‐off angle, high impalement pressure, and mechanical robustness are key requirements for super‐liquid‐repellent surfaces to realize their potential in applications ranging from gas exchange membranes to protective and self‐cleaning materials ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A genome-wide association study of intra-ocular pressure suggests a novel association in the gene FAM125B in the TwinsUK cohort

open access: yes, 2014
Glaucoma is a major cause of blindness in the world. To date, common genetic variants associated with glaucoma only explain a small proportion of its heritability. We performed a genome-wide association study of intra-ocular pressure (IOP), an underlying

Influence of Pressure Angle on Load Sharing Based Stresses in Asymmetric Normal Contact Ratio Spur Gear Drives

open access: yes, 2013
The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of pressure angle on drive and coast sides in conventional design asymmetric normal contact ratio spur gear, considering the load sharing between the gear teeth pair.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Effect of Drive Side Pressure Angle and Addendum on Mesh Stiffness of the Gears with Low and High Contact Ratios

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Gears are one of the most important machine elements widely used to transmit motion and power in various machines. The gear tooth stiffness has a significant impact on the load distribution, vibration characteristics, and overall efficiency of gear ...

Simplifying “target” intraocular pressure for different stages of primary open-angle glaucoma and primary angle-closure glaucoma

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2018
Lowering of intraocular pressure is currently the only therapeutic measure for Glaucoma management. Many longterm, randomized trials have shown the efficacy of lowering IOP, either by a percentage of baseline, or to a specified level.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...
