Comments on the phenomena underlying pressure stimulated currents in dielectric rock materials

Journal of Materials Science, 2007
It has been observed that there is a systematic detection of weak pressure stimulated electric currents (PSC) in polycrystalline and amorphous solids during or after an application of mechanical stress upon them. An interpretation of the mechanisms governing the electrical behaviour of solid structures when they undergo uniaxial stress tests is ...

Decrease in blood pressure by stimulation of the rat hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus with l-glutamate or weak current

Journal of the Autonomic Nervous System, 1987
Effects of electrical and chemical stimulation of the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus on blood pressure were examined in rats anesthetized with urethane-chloralose. Focal electrical stimulation (10-25 microA, 50 Hz, 0.5 ms) of sites within the PVN consistently decreased blood pressure, while the stimulation of regions adjacent to the ...

Determination of dielectric relaxation time as a function of pressure and temperature by the thermally stimulated current method

Applied Physics Letters, 1979
The thermally stimulated current (TSC) has been used over a wide range of pressure to determine the principal characteristics of the polymers such as the activation volume ΔV, the activation energy ΔE, and the preexponential term τ0 of the Arrhenius-type relaxation time: τ=τ0 exp[(PΔV+ΔE)/kT].

An in vitro pressure ulcer approach using High Voltage Pulsed Current (HVPC) stimulation

Gerontechnology, 2014
Purpose Immobilization will lead to pressure ulcers. The breadth and depth of impacts related to having a pressure ulcer on quality of life is significant in a physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, social, and financial sense. In Indonesia, one study reported pressure ulcers in 72 of 253 patients (28%).

Center of Pressure Periodic Displacement with Alternate Current Unilateral Vestibular Stimulation

2019
Various studies describe the postural response and ocular movements produced by transmastoid galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS). To take advantage of this response in a noninvasive vestibular prosthesis, a unilateral configuration would be a practical design for users.

Stimulated VUV emission in high-pressure xenon excited by high-current relativistic electron beams

Applied Physics Letters, 1972
Vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) emission characteristics of xenon for pressures from 15 to 450 psi are presented. Stimulated emission was observed above 200 psi. Experiments were run both with and without mirrors. Without mirrors, the emission was 150 Å wide centered at 1700 Å, and the mean radiative lifetime was 2×10−8. The energy conversion efficiency was ∼

Laboratory Investigations of a New Method Using Pressure Stimulated Currents to Monitor Concentrated Stress Variations in Coal

Natural Resources Research, 2020
Coal bumps occur frequently during coal mining, and monitoring of stress variations of coal mass is a prerequisite for coal bump prediction. To investigate a new method to reflect coal stress variation based on the pressure stimulated current (PSC), localized cyclic loading–maintaining–unloading experiments on coal samples were carried out and weak ...

Thermally-Stimulated Current of Zinc Selenide Heat-Treated in Controlled Partial Pressures of Constituent Elements

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1980
The purpose of the present investigation is to obtain information on the trap levels related to native defects. TSC (thermally-stimulated current) measurements were made on vapor-grown ZnSe single crystals heat-treated in Zn or Se vapor in order to control the deviation from stoichiometry.

Separation of gas phase and electron-stimulated-desorption ions in the modulated-ion-current pressure gauge

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 1987
The behavior of gas phase and electron-stimulated-desorption ions in the modulated-ion-current pressure gauge is described. In order to obtain optimum separation of the two ion peaks, electron energy, shield grid potential, emission current, and various shapes of electron reflectors were examined. In addition, observations were made in the residual gas

Pressure-Stimulated Rock Current as Loading Diorite to Failure: Experiments and Mechanisms

The electric precursors of rock fracturing or rock failure are essential in understanding the rock physics and rock dynamics. In this study, by partly compressing cubic- and conical-shaped diorite specimens to failure, the pressure-stimulated rock current (PSRC) between the loaded volume and the unloaded end of each specimen was detected.
